  1. Howdy, I have ordered the RP-160m bookshelfs, and am now looking for a center speaker too. I understand the rp-250c is the (intended) corresponding center to speakers like the 160m (when used as fronts). I have the opportunity to spend around $90 for a used rc52 on craigslist. There are no rp-250c's on craigslist, and the cheapest one on amazon is around $220. How comparable is the 52? Would it be a significant mis-match? Should I bite the bullet, even if it was a mis-match? Is the 250c itself, regardless of tonal matching, a much better quality speaker to have/wait for? Any advice would be appreciated!
  2. So I finally have my own space where I can set up a real (have always had cheap all in one systems lol) home theater. I bought a Samsung 65" curved 4K TV and I could really and (would so appreciate) any help someone could give me on the theater part. I'm reading and learning but still kind of lost lol. So I'm putting it in my finished basement the space is (from back wall by bar to the TV) 20'x16' so about 320 square feet. Seating is kind of shaped like a Diamond. I purchased a pair of R-26F speakers to start (thought it was a great deal and they had really good reviews). I can return though if there is something that is way better out there. The speakers came with a R-10SW subwoofer (again can return). Do I need a second sub? I'm looking at the RF-250c for my center (but open to other suggestions.) However no clue on the receiver (was looking at a new Sony STRDN1080) but I just don't know what is best. Would like to stay at about $600 or under if possible. Though if I needed to I could go a little higher. if I really needed too I could wait a few more pay checks and go up to 900-1,000 but that would be absolute max. I would prefer to only do that if it was going to be a huge difference. I also am not sure about the rear speakers? Do I just get something cheaper or is it worth putting money into those as well? i will be using this for movies and music however the priority is movies. Love movie night and really want to have that (as close as my budget allows) movie theater sound. I have about $1,000-$1,250 (right now) left to finish this project (if I wait I can go up to $1,500) much higher my wife is going to kill me lol. thank you so much for reading this and for any advice anyone can provide. JP
  3. I just moved into a home that has several Klipsch speakers installed around the patio. They are not hooked to any amp or other device--the wires run into the kitchen and terminate under the sink. I'd like to hook them into something, and do it as cheaply as possible (for now). Any recommendations or suggestions?
  4. Have been combing the forums for a few weeks now, and appreciate the time everyone puts in to help. I am in process of finalizing my speaker list and could definitely use some help with rear surrounds and subs. Below is what I had in mind and it seems from the forums, it is ok, but I was looking for the preferred option. Room is 18' x 16'6" in a basement. MLP will be about 36"-40" from the back wall. RP-280F (L, R) RP-450C (C) RP-250S (Side surrounds) RP-160M (rear surrounds) R-112SW (x2) Request 1) Keeping LCR same, what is preferred for the rear surrounds? RP-160M, RP-250S or RP-250F? The reason I ask is all 3 choices are within ballpark of each other after I consider cost of stands for the RP-160M Request 2) Is it better to have 2 R-112SW vs. 1 R-115SW? (having 2 R-115SW will basically blow my budget) Layout attached. The 8 boxes on side and back wall are columns. Thanks in advance for your advice!!
  5. So I am able to grab a hold of the R12SW (and I can get 2 of them) subwoofer its on special on bestbuy.CA for 500.79$ or I can get the R112SW for 1054.99$ My current setup: R28F Front L/R R25C Center I do not have side or back surrounds yet, later to come. No subwoofer yet of course Hard to decide, or I can just wait even much longer and get the R115SW but I am looking for a nice bang for the buck, its all about the buck help me decide thank you ! I use my system for music, lots of music, sometimes video watching or even gaming sometimes. I have a Onkyo 7.1 Ch am I able to use a Y splitter to put 2 LFE cables in and run them to the 2 subs?
  6. Hi everyone, So my friend who is moving overseas has gifted me his old Klipsch floor standing RF - 35's after years of making fun of my Yamaha HS5's.... While this might be basic knowledge on these forums, this is the first time that I have owned passive speakers so I literally have no idea what I'm looking for in an amplifier. The speakers will be used solely to play vinyl records off of 2 X Technic SL1200 record players that are already hooked up to a Pioneer DJM400 mixer (I believe this acts as a preamp?) in my living room. Friends have been telling me that i should invest in a valve/tube amplifier as it will best bring out that vinyl sound - whilst other people have been telling me I should go solid state as it will be more affordable and it will help bring out the bass in the RF35's which can sound too bright(?). Any advice, guidance, recommendations from some seasoned audio/klipsch veterans would be genuinely appreciated and welcomed :).
  7. Hi guys, New to the forum so first I'd like to say hello. So I am moving into a new condo that has been all pre-wired and the design of the space also makes my options a little more limited on top of that. I have attached a picture that sort of shows the room, the subwoofer, ceiling rear speakers, general couch/listening area, and center channel/tv location. Since it is a new place I wanted to update all of my speakers. Due to space limitations, i was thinking of doing RP-160M front left/right speakers. For the center channel i was thinking the RP-250C. Then the subwoofer I was thinking of doing the R-110SW. Then there is no placement for rears in an ideal location so the ceiling was wired in the two areas circled in a red box. I am not sure which ones to go with though. The CDT-5800-C II or the CDT-5650 II. Also, I want to see if my choices in center channel and subwoofer should balance out the space appropriately. Further down the road i was going to put speakers in the rest of the place too. One room needing high humidity and a pair outside. So if the ceiling choice for the rear surround could be picked out in advance to balance out with the rest of the future whole home audio system in mind that would also be ideal. Thanks in advance, Mike
  8. Hey gang, I wanted to solicit feedback/advice/wisdom/opinions regarding a crossroads I am at regarding speakers. Current situation: Forte II with new titanium tweeter diaphragms, new Crites crossovers, new passive radiators. Opportunity: 88 LaScalas with AL crossovers, 401 composite horn, beautiful polyurethane/clear coat over the birch, minor nicks. Price 950. Question: Should I keep my Forte II since they are in excellent shape? Should I sell them to help fund the LaScalas? If I get the LaScalas, what should I do with the AL crossovers? Are the AL crossovers worth anything? Thank you all in advance. -Alex
  9. Hello everybody I do have a litte problem! I got everything out of the the RP 280 (www.klipsch.com/products/reference-premiere-home-theater-systems#rp-280) for a 5.1 setup. Everrything works fine has amazing sound and look stunning BUT in my room I cannot place the surround speakers left and right of my listening position. I have 2 Options. (The room is 19 feet by 16 feet so no funny shapes involved but the windows are blocking some of my option) Option 1 I can place them further back (within the recommended 110 degees) and about 3 feet above my listening position but this puts them about 1.3 feet from the back wall. But if I do this do I turn the speakers so that the center of the speaker points to my listening position and what mount do I get for that? Option 2 I can place them left and right of my listening position but about 4,3 feet above my listening position which is about 1 feet from the ceiling (and about 2/3 of the speakers would hang over See Picture). I cannot place it on the back wall becasue the back wall is one big window. Both Options are not ideal but which would you recommend? I thank everybody in advance for their help. P.S. Excuse my gramma and spelling errors I am from Austria (Europe) so not a native english speaker
  10. Hello everyone, this is my first post ever. ( You can skip the next two parts, and read just the Question ) [Intro] My name is Vasilis, I am 26 years old, living in Greece, and I'm a fairly new Klipsch user, and basically a new user of Home Audio in general. Other than some average "pc speakers" I never had anything special. I really wanted to build my own Home Theater though, so after a lot of thought and digging up posts and reviews I concluded that Klipsch is for me, for several reasons. [Info] 5 Months ago I started building the system, and my first buy, were the Klipsch RP280Fs alongside the AVR. I was pretty stunned by the results I got, but obviously I could not stop there. I would like to expand the system, until I ultimately reach a 5.1 or 7.2 setup. As I am not rich though, and these speakers are really expensive here in Greece, I buy the parts one at a time, or two if they are a set like fronts or rears. [My Question] Yesterday I bought the Third part of my Home Theater Audio setup. The Klipsch R-115SW. I've tried it for several hours, and can honestly say it's impressive. I love the sound. And I don't think I ever heard bass that low in my life. That being said, I found out that the LED Indicator in the front side of the Subwoofer is not lighting up. The sub is connected to the AVR using one RCA cable connected to the L/LFE input, and I use the "Auto" power mode. I also tried setting it to ON. Still no LED. Other than the LED the unit seems to be working perfectly. At least I think so. Knobs for Amplification and Filter work, the Phase switch works, and the sub is clearly producing sound. Is this LED going to cause any problem ? Or does this indicate that I need to return it? Because if the problem is just that (the LED) I don't really care. I will not return a 35kg subwoofer just because the LED does not work. But just in case I wanted to ask you since someone in here might know a bit more than me. Thank you very much in advance. I am looking forward to your answers. I can post pictures or a video of the setup if you wish.
  11. After around 30 minutes of use my speakers AND woofers shut down and wont turn back on! SERIOUSLY?!? Can anyone tell me if they had a similar problem and if you know a fix to this!! PLEASE! (Bought from amazon on black Friday 2016)
  12. Hey everyone. I have a menagerie of speakers and am trying to slowly get them all Klipsch, as budget allows. I am having a problem with my right rear RS-62 II speaker but only when playing movies when there is a really sudden loud burst event. It pops and sounds like someone upstairs stepping really hard on the floor (and makes for an amazing realistic effect IF a movie has that happen lol) Being a minor audiophile I have tried to keep a decent round about system with limited funds. Can you please offer comments on my system and help me fix this problem, I would really appreciate it. Receiver: Onkyo AV Receiver 7.1 TX-SR805 130 watts x 7 into 8 ohms (20-20,000 Hz) at 0.05% THD 24-Bit/96kHz A/D, 24-Bit/192kHz D/A Fronts: Athena Technologies WS-100 / 50-20kHz + 3dB / 200w Center: Atlantic Technology / Compact Theater Two Center Resp. 55Hz – 20kHz / 150w Rear: Klipsch RS-62 II / Resp. 50Hz-24KHz +3dB / 150w RMS / 600w Peak Sub: Atlantic Technology / Compact Theater Two PBM 150w RMS 20-180Hz +3dB / Peak 105 dB I am going to replace my center with a RP-250C speaker next, btw.
  13. http://emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/48005/xpa5-umc200-klipsch-more?page=1&scrollTo=844806 Anybody want to pop over to the Emotiva forum and help this fellow out? He has a nice set up with a pair of KLF-30's as his front mains. He says the speakers are extremely underwhelming in the bass department....obviously that should not be the case. Much appreciated, Tim
  14. Hello, New here and looking for advice. My family is building a new home and we are going to put a home theater in it. We are thinking of putting some money into the behind the wall stuff for now. When the house is done start off lower on the cost side of things and build it us as budget allows over time. We are looking at setting it up for 7.2.4 Atmos Dolby sound. Room will be used for movies and maybe sports/tv during parties. The room is 13 feet wide and 20.5 feet long and 9.75 foot ceilings for the most part. We are having two risers built in the back to lift couches/seating. Wanted to see if the 7 speakers and 4 ceiling speakers people think is too much for a room that size? If so would you get rid of the rear speakers, ceiling speakers, one set of ceiling, or rear and ceiling? What speaker/sub combination would everyone recommend. We had Klipsch 5.1 in an old house and we loved it so I would like to go with Klipsch again. I don't have a recieiver or anything picked out yet. Like I said some of the room might get pieced together as we move into the house and over time. Thanks in advance, Patrick
  15. I just bought some La Scalas I have a buzzing or vibrating sound in the top tweeter or horn. I think this is the tweeter but not sure. I read here that replacements are available that are the same fit as he original ones but sound better. The form writer said they are drop in and made by some one here. How hard is it to change these out? Is there any how to for this? Can some one tel me the best drop in replacement and how to get them. Sorry about all the questions but would like to get these sounding good and have never worked on a speaker before Thanks in advance Twotone 23
  16. I'm just asking for someone's opinion on the value of two brand new 1970s La Scalas still in their original shipping boxes. I'm undecided whether to sell them and need some guidance. I picked them up at the factory in Hope Arkansas about 40 years ago and they've been kept in storage since then. I believe the cabinets are unfinished birch.
  17. I am setting up my first home theater to replace the Sonos setup I just spent $1800 on and will be returning. It sounds good, but not true surround and pricey. My question is this. I was thinking about using one of these two set ups and would appreciate some good advice. I am getting a 7.2 receiver for future upgrades. 1. Front and back - 2- R-15M Center - R-25C R10SW 2. Simply replace the front with the R-26F. What are your thoughts...good first system? Thanks!
  18. Hey guys, I'm new here! Long time lurker and I could really use some help from the guru's I've been using my old Kenwood km-209 power amp paired with the kc-209 amp controller to drive my vintage KG4's. The kenwood is rated at 150w although the specifications say 155+155 for both channels and says 'Music Power' Is 310w. Here's the specs: http://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/kenwood/km-209.shtml I ran the volume at about 50% for about 30-35 minutes until I came downstairs to lower the volume for about 30-60 seconds and then powered the system off. When I turned the system off, I heard a pop go through the speakers. It wasn't blaringly loud, but it was loud, and concerned me. I noticed the amp was pretty warm at that time, too. After letting it cool off for about ten minutes I turned the system back on and heard a strange garbled sound coming from the speakers. When I played music through them, the tweeters weren't putting out any sound. I plugged in my EPI's to test, and their tweeters worked, so, I'm pretty sure something happened to my KG4's. Now, I'm a little concerned.. Can't these KG4's handle some juice? I was very skeptical that I might have damaged them with this system. I am also an idiot when it comes to audio equipment so please forgive me, I'm learning. Does anyone find it peculiar that both tweeters would blow exactly at the same time, AFTER I turn the system back on at a low volume? So weird to me. Thank you for your help! Sean
  19. I humbly admit to being a complete novice with all things home theater and I have attempted to learn as I go along, but going along as proven to be overwhelming with a lot of the science and technical specs out there when trying to set up a basic system. Basically, Black Friday's black hole at Best Buy sucked me in and I splurged on a pair of R-28Fs, a pair of R-15Ms and a pair of R-10SWs (I have 4 other speakers that can be used as surrounds - ALL speakers are rated @ 8 ohms) & I bought what I was told at the time was an adequate Onkyo receiver - which I soon thereafter discovered was woefully underpowering for the caliber of speakers I bought. According to Klipsch's website regarding my pair of R-28Fs, they recommend an AVR that produces between 150-300w RMS @8 ohms since the speakers are rated at 150RMS @8 ohms. In my quest to find an affordable AVR that produces ANYTHING over 150w RMS @ 8 ohms, my eyeballs are slapped with units that cost nearly $2000 and more. I didn't go into this expecting to spend $5000 on what I imagine most of you on these forums would consider a pretty basic introductory system - but that is what I was hoping to start with until I continue to educate myself on putting together a custom system that I obtain audio utopia with - - - but until then, I am stuck with these speakers and have yet to locate an AVR that would sufficently power all of these speakers without forcing me to go to the bank to take out a loan - - but if that's what I have to do, I am about at the point of giving in so I can finally hook up these speakers. Over the phone, one Klipsch rep told me I'd be fine with an AVR that had 125w RMS @ 8 ohms even though their website contradicts that advice....another rep told me that an AVR with 185w RMS is what I'd need - so I just kinda hung it up for a while after all the misinformation. All apologies if this post is redundant or was posted on the wrong board. Can anyone point me in the direction of a respectable AVR that would be able to properly power the speakers I referenced above? I don't have a 3D HDTV (just a reg HDTV) * don't plan on 4K for a while * and will have to wait on Dolby Atmos until I evolve enough with the abundance of info out there that FOR NOW has me stumped with setting up my very first system. Any tips, suggestions or specific instructions would be appreciated as I am learning all of this on the fly. 2-Channel system with the R-28Fs & a subwoofer? Receivers vs. amplifiers? Watts per channel @ 8 ohms that won't potentially damage the speakers by under or over-powering them? sigh.... Thanks a lot!!
  20. Hey Everyone, First time poster here. I'm going to sound kind of dumb but here we go. My dad just gave me his old pair of Hersey I HBR speakers. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL. Not a single scratch or dent. However, electronics isn't really my wheel house so I was hoping yall could suggest a nice receiver in the hopefully less than $300 range for me to hook it up to as well as maybe some pictures of the wiring (they don't have any wires which, for a millennial used to AUX cords, is confusing). I'm also hoping to get a record player to go with it. I have one now but it's cheap; record wobbles, arm is too light and skips frequently. So suggestion for a solid record player would be appreciated also. Will update as progress comes along!
  21. This forum provides a wealth of knowledge and I want to thank everyone for their input. I apologize in advance for this lengthy story, but hopefully some of you can relate. My first nice system in 1988 consisted of a pair of Quartet speakers and a NAD integrated amp with a NAD 6 disc cd changer. I remember the day the salesman played those speakers and it felt like someone was standing there thumping my chest! I was hooked. Over the years, I added a Klipsch sub, center and surrounds for the home theater experience with my Pioneer Elite 65" TV and upgraded to a NAD T770 receiver. I could blow the windows out of the house with that system. After a divorce, a move into a different house and an upgrade on some technology, I find myself puzzled. I purchased a new TV and blue ray player. Of course my old components did not have HDMI imputs. Normally, I do extensive research before purchasing anything, but a big orange "SPECIAL" sign led me to purchase a Sony ES 7.1 channel home theater receiver with more inputs/outputs than the space shuttle. The ease of connection, reduction in wires, and advertised superiority of the HDMI was attractive to me. With the new house and extended hours at a new job, I rarely exploited the system. While I was out of town, an unexplained incident with a house sitter or teenaged son seemed to blow all the woofers from my system. Out of frustration, I let the system sit idle for quite some time. After a windfall, I decided to treat myself to some new speakers. The whole home theater set up has lost its appeal to me......and what I really enjoy is listening to my music. With this being said, I moved the surround set up to the master bedroom with the intent of reconing the woofers eventually and ordered a pair of Cornwall IIIs for my TV/Listening room. I was as excited as a little kid at Christmas as I slid those speakers out of the box. (My wife was a little less excited when she saw the size of the Cornwall IIIs, but that is another story.) Here is where I need the forum's help. When I hooked up the speakers and played a few CDs, I was pretty underwhelmed. I chose not to biamp the speakers initially because everything I read seemed to be split down the middle whether it was beneficial or not. I was being cautious at first with the volume, especially after the blow out of the previous set up. I carefully increased the volume and the sound was crisp, with no distortion or hiss, but the sound just seemed flat. This receiver has the microphone that you position so that it takes measurements of the room etc and I went through all those steps. I even went in to the digital equalizer and increased the bass levels, which helped round out the sound somewhat. After these adjustments, I increased the volume, but nowhere near pissing off the neighbors levels and the left speaker started to pop. I turned down the volume as quick as I could, but it had popped about three times. Do you think the receiver has an issue from the previous incident? Is it not good enough to drive this speakers? My old NAD equipment had no issues driving my speakers and I had researched its quality. Is a lack of power to the speakers causing the popping? Is that popping referred to as clipping? Since I do not care about the surround sound and am going to a 2 channel set up, would biamping give more power to the speakers and eliminate this issue? Any advice is welcomed and I appreciate everything in advance.
  22. Hi all! After a couple of months searching for an entry level 5.1 HT setup I am happy to announce that I am now the proud owner of a Klipsch Reference II system. Really happy to have joined the club! For full disclosure, I have been listening to music, watching TV/movies and playing games using a (rather crappy) HTIB purchased 8 years ago. The centre channel was no longer working so I thought it would be about time to upgrade. I don't know why it took me so long but since I'm new here I hope that you won't hold that against me for now. What I do know is that I can't wait to get my new kit: Pair of RF-52 II as fronts RC-52 II for the centre channel Pair of RB-41 II at the back, sitting on Atacama Moseco 7 stands A single SVS SB-1000 as the subwoofer All of the above powered by a Sony STR-DN1050, which I can get with a 40% discount Over the coming months I'm considering to add the following: Second SVS SB-1000 sub Pair of R-14S surrounds (Still "maybes": Atacama's Evoque Eco 60-40 or Milan Reference 10 rack from Custom Design) I think that what I have already purchased will be sufficient for the time being. Going forward, I might want to run a 7.2 setup in the living room or, perhaps more likely, put the surrounds there and move the RB-41 II speakers to my study (Zone 2) as a 2.0 set up for music. I'll see how that goes and, if I may, keep you all updated. Just in case this helps, the system in the living room will be used for: Music (20%): Spotify/AirPlay streaming and very occasionally CD Games (30%): PS4, PS3 Video (50%): Series and movies using Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, HD cable service, DVD and Blu-Ray. One or two football (soccer) games per week. The two questions I have are pretty basic but I'd greatly appreciate your advise: Question 1: Should I keep the RC-52 II centre speaker or should I really have it swapped for the RC-62 II instead? Reading through the forum I seem to have picked up that the RC-42 II and the RC-52 II are relatively similar but the RC-62 II is a real step up in terms of sound (dialogue) clarity for movies. Taking into account what I had (or in this case actually, since it wasn't working anymore, didn't have!) the HT setup I purchased will already make a huge difference so I'm considering keeping it all unchanged... unless you insist that I should really shell out a bit more cash and change the centre channel to the RC-62 II. Question 2: Can I find any use at all for any of the HTIB components or should I just chuck them in the bin and move on? This is what we're talking about (click here if you must see how that looks like): Sony STR KSL40 amp 4x Sony SS MSP50 satellite speakers 1x Sony SS CNP50 centre speaker (not working) 1x Sony SA WMSP40 sub This is probably nothing worth hanging on for much longer, especially now that the amp starts buzzing every time I crank up the volume just a bit. Actually, that's primarily what convinced my wife that an upgrade was "needed"! I'll be receiving everything listed in the first set of bullet points between over the next 10 days or so... can't wait to connect the system, configure it and start getting the neighbours to wonder why London suddenly became a seismic area. Thanks in advance! P.S.: It got pretty late here in the UK so I'll go to bed and, if needed, respond to any questions you might have for me tomorrow. Good night!
  23. Calling all Bill Fitzmaurice fans! There is a table tuba that someone is offering me that has an unusual modification. The builder set an extra inch of room for the woofer driver than what was written in the plans and, as a result, the horn has an extra 6 inches of length I believe. I'm wondering how this will affect the frequencies and if it renders the subwoofer useless. The builder claims that he cannot tell any difference--but wanted me to know for the sake of transparency and specifically pointed me to you all. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks all!
  24. I have had these for awhile but never took them out of the box except to photo. Can provide photos on request but I am having trouble attaching to this post. Was going to use them in a new house but we never got approved to buy. Serious surround sound from these bad boys! They are black so they blend with any decor. Would like $350.00 but will concider offers. I live in the south metro area of the Twin Cities, Minnesota but will ship for actual shipping cost if your not local SOLD!
  25. Hello all, I currently have a pair of RB-81 II Cherry bookshelf speakers that I am looking to sell. These speakers have only been hooked up once for 10 minutes to ensure they worked properly and they sound great. They are still in the packaging that I had received them in. I'm looking to sell them for $750 and I will include the shipping to anywhere in the US. If anyone is interested please let me know. http://imgur.com/GYNMcMh,kOvOzJl,z4h7ATr,PmM2QEZ,ZxIDaNc,slPKb96#0 **EDIT** Speakers have been sold!!! **EDIT** I am also selling an Aragon Stage One preamp for $250 that is still ongoing.
