  1. I have a Audio Technica AT-LP60 turntable paired with my Klipsch R-51PM Bookshelf Speakers. My turntable and my speakers both have a built in preamp, so I can either select line on my turntable and line on my speakers to utilize the turntable's internal preamp, or phono on both to utilize the speaker's internal preamp. Does anyone know which will result in better sound quality?
  2. This cartridge is only a few months old and I am the second owner of this cartridge. It only has about five hours of use on it. I purchased it from a friend about a month ago to finally experience a higher end phono cartridge. It sounded awesome just like the reviews indicate. I've since decided to move away from vinyl and focus on bettering my streaming setup and the convenience it offers. So I sold my newer turntable and now I'm selling this cartridge which I no longer need. Includes the cartridge and head shell screws. My friend misplaced the original box while in the process of relocating. It will be carefully packaged, shipped and insured. Asking $900.00 includes shipping. Buyer responsible for fees. (PP/Venmo) Thanks for looking!
  3. I just purchased the Pro-ject Phono E BT (V2.1, EDR) unit and works well with bluetooth speakers like the Bose Revolve. But to my disappointment I cannot connect this same BT to Klipsch 'The Fives' speakers (BT 5.0). I tried every trick and resets with no success. Anyone had the same issue and found a solution for this. Thanks in advance. JMagro
  4. I recently purchased a new TT (Pro Ject Debut Carbon Espirit) paired with the Fives powered speakers by Klipsch, to be used almost exclusively to play vinyl, with the occasional streaming via Spotify and my iPhone. When streaming music, the speakers sound very good. However, with vinyl (and I bought them for vinyl) they sound just okay. I’m no expert. So perhaps I expect too much. But to me, when playing records, even new, audiophile grade records, The Fives sound a little muddy, sort of muffled. And I really want the true vinyl experience. The cartridge (Ordifon Red) came new with the TT. The TT has no internal phono amp. One of the reasons I chose the 5s was their built in preamp. (I since read one review that opined the phono preamp was the 5s weakest feature.) So I find myself contemplating a separate phono amp, perhaps a tube amp, based upon what I read. Pro Ject makes one (S2?) that plays to rave reviews, but it ain’t cheap. ($450). Am I destined to spiral down the bottomless audiophile rabbit hole called “better sound,” so often sought in vain? (You know you’ve done it.) Or should I give a separate preamp a shot? Or does someone more knowledgeable than I have any other ideas? Thanks in advance.
  5. I use my new 5s almost exclusively with a turntable. I do not use a separate preamp. My TT doesn’t have a built in preamp. So I have to use the preamp built in to the 5s. When connecting the TT initially, I noticed that with everything hooked up, with the phono/line switch on “line,” I had no sound. So I switched it to “phono” and had what I assumed was full powered sound. I assumed I set it up correctly. I then had occasion to look at the Klipsch website on how to connect a TT with and without a preamp. Despite what works with my setup, the instructions clearly state that to use the speakers’ internal preamp, the switch should be on “line.” And to use another preamp, either stand alone or one built in to the TT, the switch should be on phono. This is the opposite of what works with my speakers. I have no other preamp, and the switch is on “phono,” but I have sound. I tested it and switched it back to “line” and get no sound. This may sound nitpicky and silly because after all, they seem to work very well. I guess I’m concerned either that I have done something wrong in connecting the components or there is something wrong with my new speakers. Could it simply be that the Klipsch website is wrong and that the proper setting is “phono” for 5s’ built in preamp and “line” for an external preamp? I contacted Klipsch, to no avail. I hope this makes sense. Thanks
  6. Original owner 2018 build new Mullard tubes low hours $900 includes shipping (from Savannah)and PayPal G&S
  7. Dynavector 10x5 MC phono cartridge - as new $350. $300 shipped within USA. Legendary moving coil cartridge with great reviews. Comes with original box/packaging/instructions & needle cleaning brush. Needledoctor was selling these re-tipped for $600. Bought from friend, sent to re-tipping service/not mounted since getting it back. Here's the write up after service: "Hi Jim, I noticed that the original cantilever and nude diamond tip assembly was still hanging onto your cartridge. I inspected it under the microscope and it looked brand new. There was no detectable wear to the diamond. So instead of installing a new bonded tip, your cartridge has been reunited with its original nude tip. Working great now and testing perfect. Third photo shows perfect channel balance, fourth and fifth show respective channel separation figures approaching 40dB at 1000Hz which is quite high. Spec is only 25dB at 1000Hz. Photos 1 and 2 show suspension is fine and cantilever tracks straight. It’s as good as new! Joseph"
  8. Having trouble diagnosing the problem. A few weeks ago i was running a Pioneer SX 1010 (100% refurbished a few years ago) with an Orbit TT with Klipschorns (1974 all original except a new XO from Crites) The left speaker made a mild cracking sound, and it seemed like the K55V was having trouble. They are original from 1974, so I figured the diaphragm went bad, ordered a pair of A-55Gs from Crites (good reason to order these anyway) Noticed the sound still wasn't right, left side a bit bright or right side was muddy. Swapped out the SX 1010 for a Pioneer SX 535 (little brother) - sounded OK, but still off, at first I though it was just the down grade in receiver. Decided to hook the 1010 with the Orbit to some KG 1.5's - noticed the woofer cone was dancing a bit, and more on the left side. Swapped the 535 in and noticed the same thing, just less pronounced dancing. Did the same with some Forte II's 1010 and 535 same results. Next I grabbed an old Pioneer PL15 TT, and did the same tests with 1010 and 535 with the forte IIs Similar results, also noticed while i was touching the balance knob the woofer dancing was worse then it would settle down, again both the 1010 and 535. Thus I can't seem to find the problem, but something is not right. Last test was to go away from the phono stages and go ipod to aux, both 1010 and 535 - both sounded as they should. As always appreciate any insight/help before i spend some $s to have the 1010 phono stage looked at. Thanks
  9. I am starting a new build. This time around a phono stage to go with my line stage I just completed. Here is the chassis. There will be three tubes across.
