  1. A good looking pair of RF-83s are up for purchase in Northern VA. No affiliation. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ele/5962375477.html
  2. I am selling my entire home theater system, great condition, just too big now. Here's what I have for sale: RF-83 (2 speakers) - $700 total RF-63 (2 Speakers) - $500 total RC-64 (center channel) - $500 total KW120 (2 subs plus the KA1000 amp) - $1000 Emotiva 5 channel amp $250 Onkyo PR-SC886 - $300 The total price is $3250, you must buy the entire system. Let me know if you want an individual item for the future, if the entire system doesn't sell, then I may have to sell individually, though at that point the individual prices will still be amazing, but might be tweaked to the highest bidder. These are very reasonable prices, so looking to sell soon. Total cost of system was around $10,000, everything works in perfect condition. There are a few cosmetic scratches at most. Email me asap for more information, must pick up in Los Angles.
  3. Several years ago, I had the opportunity to hear Jeff Hoak's LaScalas and they were beautiful sounding speakers. I had the chance to pick up a pair recently and had TOTALLY forgot how large they were. LOL. These have an absolutely beautiful finish. Other than a few small nicks near the bottom of the cabinets, they are in amazing condition for a 34 year old speaker. Everything looks original and they have AA Crossovers. Serial Numbers are Sequential. Based on the serial number, they are Vintage 1980. There weren't any stickers on the back so I'm not sure of the style these (not even sure what different variety LaScalas came in. I have no idea what finish these are in or if they were stained at one time. Feel free to help educate me on these because I know little to nothing about them. I've been listening to a variety of source material. Youtube and streaming and Airplay from my cell phone sound like garbage on them. Haha. I think it's because they are just very revealing? Once I hooked up Dave Matthews, Eagles and a few other concert DVD's, they sounded very nice. I've always heard guys speak of how the 3-way heritage speakers have better midrange. I've owned Forte II and Chorus II and I thought those were "heritage" but later found out they weren't part of the heritage series. I never felt they blew away my RF-83's in the midrange department. The LaScalas definitely have a better midrange though. That midrange horn is HUGE! The throat on the horn is 2ft deep. It's very smooth and vocals sound amazingly natural. Bass from the LaScalas in my HT is extremely weak. I even turned the crossover for my mains to Full and they were still weak. I've always heard guys say that about the LaScalas and there are a few that "claim" the LaScalas have plenty of bass. Sorry, that's just not the case in my room. Over the next week, I want to move them into my living room (wife has to leave for a few hours to do that). I want to see how bass sounds with hardwood floor and how they sound in a very open floorplan layout. No worries as long as you have a capable sub. My RSW-15 provided plenty of low end to allow the LaScalas to really shine. Movies sounded amazingly clear and precise. Very detailed. My next step is to do some A/B comparison between the LaScalas and the RF-83's to see how they directly compare to each other. Because the LaScalas do not have banana plugs, I have a set of speaker cables hooked up to the RF-83's and a second set hooked up to the LaScalas and will have to change the cables on the back of the amp. It should be another fun comparison. Here are some pics I took of them tonight.
  4. I recently purchased a pair of RT-10D's. I initially thought that the dual RT-10D's would have more output than the single RSW-15 but so far in my initial testings, although the RT-10D's provide plenty of smooth, low end, they don't seem to have as much slam or dig as deep as the RSW-15. These are not conclusive findings as I need to dial the subs in a bit more to make sure I'm doing a fair comparison. I will be posting my findings in this Dual RT-10D vs RSW-15 Comparison Thread hopefully this weekend when I have some time to spend in the HT. I keep forgetting we have a Subwoofers section so I thought I would share some pics for everyone.
  5. An acquaintance of mine contacted me asking if I knew anyone that might be interested in purchasing a pair of RT-10D. I've never owned any of the RT Series and have only heard one demo a LONG time ago. I want to see how they compare to my RSW-15 so I decided to buy them. My schedule has been crazy busy lately but as soon as I have some time, I will do some comparisons between Dual RT10D and a Single RSW15. Do you think that would be a fair comparison? To me, it's hard to tell because you have (1) Active 15" & (1) Passive 15" in the RSW-15 vs (2) Active 10" & (4) Passive 10" in the RT-10D. What are your thoughts on which might come out on top? RSW-15 Specs: 600 RMS / 2400 Peak Down to 19Hz 121dB Surface Area: 352 RT-10D Specs: 700 RMS / 1600 Peak Down to 22Hz 119dB with Single RT-10D 122dB with Dual RT-10D Surface Area of single RT-10D: 235.5 Surface Area of Dual RT-10D: 471 The RT-10D is designed to be in a corner so I'm thinking about leaving my RSW-15 behind the bottom right door of the False Wall and placing the RT-10D behind the false wall in the corners. Here is my prediction.....the RSW-15 will beat a single RT-10D but Dual RT-10D will beat RSW-15. Now when I say beat, I'm probably just talking shear impact. The RSW-15 is very musical but I've heard the same about the RT-10D series as well. Guess that's part of the fun finding out through experimentation. Visually, the finish on the RT-10D is absolutely gorgeous! Very deep, dark cherry wood color. Although they have a small profile, they are quite heavy for their size. The foam surrounds are very tight and thick. Unfortunately, everyone is in bed so I'll have to wait till tomorrow night to fire them up! This should be a fun comparison! Below are some pics for your enjoyment.
