  1. Greetings all, Seeking consensus regarding using a high pass or full range for my subwoofer. Two different techs at the subwoofer manufacturer garnered two different responses. McIntosh rep says high pass. Seems to me on a "common sense" level that filtering all that signal through the sub , then back to the main amp would degrade that "McIntosh sound". Thank you in advance. I don't know much but I'm learning. System: McIntosh MA5200 100 watt Heresy III speakers SBS SB-2000 500 watt, 1100 peak
  2. I have an RW-10d and the LCD display doesn't come on and if I hook up audio input I hear nothing. The fuse is fine. I took the back plate off and I have 120V AC on the power supply board; However, the CD+ to CD- voltage reads as 0V DC. I presume this means that the power supply is bad. I'd just prefer to replace the entire board if possible. I contacted support and they told me "Unfortunately we no longer have the amplifier for that speaker available. You may need to locate a replacement using a secondary market". Any ideas where I can get replacement parts or what I should try?
  3. I just bought a new 12sw from best buy and the klipsch emblem is missing from front.
  4. I have 2 subs for sale. Klipsch R-10SW, purchased last year during black Friday sale, kept in near perfect cosmetic condition and perfect working condition, original box included. $150 ($350 new, $175 BF/Fry's Sale) Yamaha YST-SW315, several years old, in very good cosmetic condition and perfect working condition, no box. $100 ($225-$300 new) Pictures upon request, they look just like the stock photos. I am located in Chicago, local pickup or I will ship to buyer at cost to ship using buyers preferred method.
  5. I'm looking for a kg SW subwoofer. Prefer black but any finish will do. I'm in central Connecticut. Willing to travel 1 1/2-2hrs. to pick up.
  6. While waiting to find a Klipsch kg SW subwoofer locally, I'm considering reconnecting to my system the powered, ported Sony SAWM40 subwoofer I have. Don't laugh; I bought it used, and cheap! Part of what annoys me about the Sony is, most of the time I listen to NPR/FM radio, and when voices pronounce words with the letter "B" or "P" I hear a slight booming "pop" clearly coming from the subwoofer. In phonetics it's called a Bilabial Stop, which pretty much means the lips come together at the end of the sound for that sharp consonant end. I can turn the output level of the subwoofer down and eliminate the issue, but then the subwoofer adds nothing to music. It's either one or the other. Is this common with subwoofers? With powered subwoofers? Is it the 12" size of my driver? I've monkeyed with the level and crossover and can't fix one without silencing the other.
  7. My SW10-II was new in 1994, and I'm the original owner. When I power it on, it makes a constant horrible, loud noise, like a T-Rex taking a dump, only louder and worse. It only just started doing this. I checked the cables, etc. They seem OK. And it worked OK all day, even after I did a Denon setup/calibration. And watched some TV and music. Then the next time I powered it on, it makes this roaring noise and I have to shut it off immediately. Indeed, I did move the speaker because I was setting up a new amp, and maybe the jiggling broke something loose that was "old"? I emailed a local "shop" with the symptoms, and he said: " your power supply is going out and the amp needs to be refurbished. " Anyone know about this kind of failure? Thanks -Dave
  8. **New to the Forum** - I just purchased a pair of early 80's Heresys in great cosmetic condition. I was introduced to Klipsch at an early age because I grew up in a house with my dad's 70's Cornwalls. A few year's back, I had a 10" Reference Series sub gifted to me and I was impressed with it's bass output - especially paired with my cheaper JBL shelf system that I had at the time. I was very excited to find the Heresys in my local area, so I scooped them up since I am setting up (from scratch) a new system for my condo. I purchased a Denon AVR-S510BT receiver (700W) and hooked up the Heresys this evening, and I must say, I was extremely disappointed in the bass output. I have searched forums on here, and I have also read reviews on other sites, and it's clear that low end on the Heresys is not a strong point. However, I was not expecting virtually no bass whatsoever. Don't get me wrong, the highs sound fantastic - crisp and clear as day. I didn't expect them to be comparable to the Cornwall's by any means, but I did expect the 12" woofers in the Heresys to have similar output that the 10" Reference sub had. Am I way off base here? To be clear, I am by no means an audio expert. Since I have never heard a pair of Heresys before I don't know what to listen for, nor what their bass standard should be. The settings in the Denon are correct from what I have researched. I do not have any surround or center speakers. The settings are set for front speakers and are set on "Large" with no sub. I have checked the positive and negative on both speakers and they are hooked up correctly. Have I just been spoiled with the bass response on the Cornwalls? Should I just pair them with a sub? It's just hard for me to believe that a speaker made by Klipsch and marketed as "2/3 a Klipschorn" would have so little bass response. Any input would be welcomed.

  11. I've just started the process of building 2 ported subs for nearfield in my basement theater. I ordered 2 of the diysoundgroup ported 15" kits. Kit information can be found here: http://www.diysoundgroup.com/ported-subwoofers-1/15-cube.html I am using 2 of the Parts Express buyout Legacy EF drivers, initially pointed out by Fuzzy Dog in another thread: The Parts Express drivers are still available, can be found here: http://www.parts-express.com/15-famous-maker-dvc-high-excursion-aluminum-cone-subwoofer-4-ohms-per-coil--299-700
  12. 8/15/2016: Klipsch RSW-12 Subwoofer Repair by Edwards Electronics (via eBay) Executive summary: 30-day total turnaround (including cross-country shipping), $184.00 total cost, completely fixed. Communication could have been better. Details: I wanted to start this as a new thread so anyone could easily find this thread during forum searches. I have a Klipsch RSW-12 subwoofer that went dead almost two years ago. No lights, no response of any kind. I did all the normal first-line troubleshooting; checked the fuse, wall outlet for power, etc. I gave it a light smack. No success. At that time, I came to this forum and was unable to find any information on troubleshooting, parts availability, nor repairs (I'm not certain how hard I looked), but I darn well wasn't going to throw away an RSW-12 simply because it no longer worked! So I hung onto it hoping one day I could get it repaired. One day I was randomly searching eBay, probably for the keyword "Klipsch" and came across the eBay "Buy-It-Now" repair service specifically listing Klipsch RSW subwoofer repair! Yes! I understand that the seller, eBay handle "edwards-electronics", has eBay listings for all kinds of subwoofers, not just Klipsch, but they (he?) certainly seem to specialize in subwoofer repair. They have an EXCELLENT eBay feedback rating, and even though the price was what I would consider a little pricey ($165 +$19s/h = $184.00), I did appreciate the 'flat-rate' fee (no surprises). I also appreciated that they wanted me to send in JUST the back-panel & the amp assembly, not the entire subwoofer (and we all know who badly shipping a subwoofer speaker can go). Most of all, I was grateful simply to find a repair service for this amp. So, per instructions from Edwards Electronics, I removed the rear speaker and front 'speaker' (passive radiator), removed the rear electrical panel, and the amp assembly from inside the subwoofer (all was easy), and took lots of photos while doing it so I wouldn't have any questions when it came to putting it back together. The entire process only take a single tool; Torx T20 screwdriver. Nothing else. I wrapped the panel, amp, and connecting wires in bubble wrap, and shipped it all via UPS to Mesa, Arizona (residential address, btw). It cost me $24.04 via UPS ground with $300 insurance from Florida. I shipped it on Friday 7/15/2016, and UPS tracking showed it arrived on Thursday 7/21/2016 - 6 days. Other than the UPS tracking, I received no notification from Edwards Electronics. I gave it several days, and sent an eBay message to them on Aug-05 (about 15 days with no word from them) just to verify that they received the amp. I received a response two days later letting me know the amp was probably done. In researching this, I noticed that I did NOT follow the directions he provided to TEXT him if I needed to contact him. In that response, he indicated his 'technician' was out for a couple of days sick. I received an email from PayPal on Aug-10 that the sub was on it's way back to me. Tracking shows USPS accepted the package on Aug-12, and it was sent via USPS Priority Mail 2-Day shipping. I received the subwoofer amplifier back today, August 15th. I looked everything over very carefully (without disassembling anything) and I could not see a single solder repair. But. like I said, there where places I certainly couldn't see, and perhaps the repair involved replacing a complete board or subassembly. I have no idea what was wrong, or what was repaired. there was nothing in the box upon it's return. The original ad indicated that in addition to being repair, it would be updated: "We Will Repair Amp - Upgrade To Latest Specifications - Fix Sound Input / Output Issues - Install Much Better Parts" I have no idea if any of this was done or not. I notice that another eBay repair service also makes mention of replacing some troublesome resistors present in Klipsch subwoofers. I reassembled the subwoofer, hooked it up, crossed my fingers, and turned it on... Total success. The light comes on, and the subwoofer works! I can't speak to any tonal characteristics, as I now live in an apartment, and can't even use this subwoofer at this time (but I fully expect to in the future), but it certainly seems to be working fine, as it did originally. So given that's the bottom line, I'm very happy. I do wish that I had received some sort of notification when they received it so I didn't have to worry, and it would have been nice to have some sort of 'technician repair notes' in the box upon it's return, especially with regard to replacing/updating and troublesome components.
  13. My KSW-200 is having some issues and I am looking for a replacement. Locally, several folks are selling KSW-12's at good prices, but I am concerned about the inputs. I have read the Klipsch FAQ's and the online manuals, but need some help interpreting what I am reading. Simply, with my KSW200 I have a single RCA sub cable going from my receiver to the sub. Plus is does have Line In L/R, and Line our L/R RCA jacks. The KSW-12 does not have that subwoofer input jack. It has RCA L/R. IS there a reason the KSW-12 doesn't have the Sub RCA input? So I am confused as to how I would set this up with the single sub cable?? Maybe I am overthinking this? Thanks in advance, Joel
  14. Hello everyone. I bought a 6.1 set of Icon speakers in October of 2008, and last week my XW-500D subwoofer died. There is a little text display on the top, and when I toggle the power switch it will light up for half a second before fading out. It also doesn't go BOOM BOOM BOOM anymore. That has been the extent of my troubleshooting so far. This brick cost a pretty penny back in 2008, but I am not sentimental about it. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for trying to repair it. Otherwise, I'd like to solicit recommendations for replacing it. My den is 22' x 22', and this would be for exclusively for movies. I am not opposed to moving to a 6.2 setup, if there is any merit to that layout. Thanks in advance for your input! Darwin
  15. What a deal this could be! It has a nice cabinet and a perfect speaker. The plate amplifier is probably dead but does that really matter? It shouldn't be a problem for someone who knows what they are doing and could revive it. I offer it for someone in the Atlanta area as a project for only $34.78. Otherwise it's heading for the recyclers. /Steve
  16. I have a beautiful RSW-15 in black available for sale. It is in terrific shape, has some minor scratches, one small imperfection, 2 missing grill pegs, and is otherwise in great shape. I purchased this subwoofer from another member in the forum and would like to sell it to another member in the forum to "pass it on." I have tested it extensively, and it works 100%. I added feet to this sub, as it came without feet. Some scratches on the bottom are there most likely due to the lack of feet. I did some light touchup on them in order to make the appearance as perfect as possible. The member who had it before me took excellent care of it, and I have also. It has absolutely no performance issues and plays loud, low and clear. Asking $750 for the RSW-15. I enjoy getting to know and meet the members here. Please be friendly! I look forward to creating a win-win here My track record is not long here but I am 100% honest and forthcoming. Feel free to ask any questions or request additional pictures of any part as needed. I am located in Chicago, Illinois, in the far north part of the city. Easily accessible for anybody, safe and parking is not a problem where I live. Cheers, Roboklipsch
  17. I just purchased a used KSW 100 subwoofer and upon getting it home, I noticed that the paper cone has separated from the plastic cap that creates the opening in the sub. I was able to put it back on, but I can now see some foam rubber protruding when I look into the hole. Does anyone know the best way to fix this or to get access to a manual or video that will show me how to fix this? Thanks
  18. I have done a search and am not finding much for results, but my RW-10d died the other day. I turned it on, it made a crackle and died. The fuse is blown, but the board looks fine, no blown or melted resistors. I found one post where the users had replaced the MOSFETs and stated theirs were working again, but that was almost 6 years ago and I was wondering if it was still working, or did it at least last a year or two? I know most people replace the plate amp, but that's almost half the price of a new sub and I would prefer to not do that. If it comes to that then I will just upgrade to a new one, as long as they're not having the same problems as I see many have. I contacted klipsch for advice and have yet to hear anything back from them also. And, if I can't fix it, what is comparable as a replacement?
  19. Hey Guys, I have a brand new in box Klipsch Reference r-12sw Subwoofer for sale. I won it as a prize from work, and its way too big for my apartment. Looking to sell, Local pickup preferred. Shipping is on buyer if they choose to. Let me know if interested. $275.
  20. Hi, I'm a new member to the Klipsch family and I have some sub questions. I purchased the THX Ultra2 system without the subs a few weeks ago and now I am ready to add one or two subs to the system. The Ultra2 speakers sound amazing but the old Velodyne CT-120 sub I am using just isn’t up to the task. One or both subs will be placed in cabinetry with openings that are 23.75" H x 22.75" W x 22.75" D unless I can place the subs in the room without giving up too much floor space. The media room is 18' x 24' x 9.' I haven’t listened to the Klipsch THX Ultra2 Subs and I was wondering if they are still considered to be great subs? Has the THX Ultra2 Subs’ performance been surpassed by newer subs introduced by other companies? Do the THX Ultra2 Subs integrate with the rest of the Ultra2 system better than subs made by other manufacturers? The following subs are being considered along with the Klipsch THX Ultra2 Subs: SVS SB13-Ultra Funk Audio 18.0C JTR Captivator S1 Paradigm Prestige 1000SW Seaton Sound SubMersive HP+ Seaton Sound SubMersive F18+ The Seaton subs are too big to fit in the cabinetry but they are an interesting option. I will be able to listen to the Paradigm 1000SW at a local dealer but not the other subs.
  21. Hi, you may notice I'm selling my stuff. It's time to downsize and this sub is more than I need now. I am the original owner and it is good shape and sounds great. One grill post is broken. Thanks, EJH
  22. These are $1999 new, get one local (near Columbia SC) for much less and hear before you buy too! Both are in perfect condition and used less than a year. All packaging included. I have two of these available, both received in March 2015 direct from SVS, ordered in late February 2015 direct from SVS. Order number and order email will be provided too. $1550 price is for ONE subwoofer, but you are welcome to buy BOTH for $2950 if you bring cash and drive to my home. My wife has always hated how big they are and she finally won so I bought much smaller subs that do NOT go down to 14Hz like these massive subs weighing 155lbs each. These are serious and great looking subs. If you are price shopping, note that these have the newer more powerful sledge amps, while the older ones you see on ebay have the older style amp. I can also provide a copy of the original order for warranty purposes too, there is more than 4 years remaining on the warranty (between you and SVS)! These are very high quality and can do less than 1% THD at normal volume level (100dB or less) in a well treated room and can even hit those 120dB peaks if you want them to for movies. Very versatile subs as they can be used in three modes including sealed, ported 16Hz or ported 20Hz. They easily went down to 14Hz in my room +/-3dB. Any audiophile would love these, they are that impactful and accurate. NEAR COLUMBIA, SC. WILL NOT SHIP RIGHT NOW, MAYBE IN A FEW MONTHS THOUGH IF THEY DON'T SELL BY APRIL. PLEASE DON'T ASK FOR A SHIPPING QUOTE UNTIL APRIL. THANKS AND SORRY, I JUST DON'T WANT TO LUG THESE THINGS TO FEDEX FREIGHT UNLESS I HAVE TO. 23. I have the Icon SB 1 Soundbar and wireless sub. I purchased new about a year and a half ago. This problem just stared about a month ago. When I turn on the sound bar, the wireless sub will "pair" with it. When it does, it makes a sound I can best describe as a small squelch. It kind of creeks and buzzes at the same time (an electric static-y sound) , for a couple seconds. Then it doesn't get louder than a whisper. I have tried using both different inputs and plugging it in to different places. Anyone have an idea of the problem?
  24. NOW $425! Less than 2 years old, so 2 months of warranty left (I cannot honor warranty but will provide the invoice if you have any issues, bought from an authorized dealer, but I cannot promise warranty is transferable). Shipped from Columbia, SC buyer pays all shipping costs. See more pics on my Craigslist ad as it's too much of a pain to resize all my pictures for here: http://columbia.craigslist.org/ele/5382703171.html This thing is awesome, just no where to mount it on my new chairs that have an open bottom with tall wood legs. I could modify the chairs and mount it upside down, but then my chairs would not be aesthetically pleasing to my wife (as bottom is open you'd see the transducer). These would be fabulous mounted to a sofa or a recliner which normally has an enclosed base. My last recliner set was leather and I modified it using a 2x6 screwed on the inside part of the wood frame, then bolted this to it. It shot the stuff out of me when watching movies, totally awesome! There's even a mounting plate so you don't have to modify your sofa. It goes under one leg. I believe this requires you to remove a sofa leg (most unscrew), but I'm not sure as I never opened this part of the kit! The 400W/1500Watt transducer (aka shaker) goes down to 5 Hz! It takes a serious amp to go down that low, and the one included is nearly 30 lbs and has a toroidal transformer too. These are the heaviest and best Buttkickers (Butt Kickers) available too (little ones do NOT go down to 5 Hz). Would also be great for a studio or drummers chair (similar to a Pearle Drum Throne Thumper). I'm included all the original accessories, this kit sells for $699.95 + shipping (click add to card on Buttkicker's site). The kit weighs 45 lbs, and all packaging is included and they really are in like new condition. It is even double boxed. http://www.thebuttkicker.com/lfe-kit The ButtKicker low frequency transducer accurately reproduces bass and special effects from the subwoofer and .1 LFE sound tracks. The ButtKicker "shakes" your couch or home theater seating precisely in sync with your movie, music or game. The kit includes all the cables and wires needed to connect the ButtKicker to your home theater and gaming systems. The Kit Includes: 1 BK-LFE, 1 BKA-1000-N, 1 BK-CMAK and wiring kit.
