After i get my new shelves done, i might finally be able to break my RS3 from storage. One of them will go into one of the shelves, but the other will have to be free standing. I know this is not ideal. My question is, should i put a movable board behind the speaker, do dipoles need a "wall" behind them for reflection of sound? Thanks!

First time I have ever posted in a blog but need some help. Trying to get audio for my open concept family room/kitchen. Its a big space - the family room part is probably 24 feet wide (on this wall is where the TV would be), and 15 feet deep, but there is no back wall cause it opens up the kitchen, which is another 12 feet deep. On the 24 ft wall i have wires for a L/R/C and a sub in the corner, and two ceiling rear for L/R surround that are right over the couch. This is where we spend 99% of our time so wanted a system for both movies and music; i am by no means an audiophile, but i did grow up with a dad that was and had Aerial speakers growing up 30 years ago (not sure if they even make those anymore) so I do appreciate the difference in quality. Despite being wired I started with this setup cause of ease of use: 1. Sonos ARC plus sonos in ceiling speakers powered by a sonos AMP, sonos sub This obviously sounded better than the TV, but for the cost it wasn't great in this room. Maybe the room, but the soundbar just felt very small. 2. I returned this, and recently got Klipsch 504 for center Klipsch 625 atmos for L/R Klipsch in-ceiling 160 CDT for surround Klipsch 12 inch sub Yamaha V6A receiver This setup sounds quite a bit better than the sonos (especially for movies), but two problems. 1. The voice isn't as clear as I feel it could be - it is a bit hollow and distant. 2. More importantly, the speakers are really big, and wife hates it. I also cant really hear the ATMOS effect - maybe cause my ceiling is too high at 12 feet? Thus, advice.... I am now at the stage of looking for a new setup with in-wall or on-wall speakers - at least for the L/R and could also do for the center. For this much money, I really feel like it could be bada-s, but I feel like I am missing the mark (or it is just the aucistics of the room). Anyone have any recommendations for in wall speakers for this setup? I am really all over the place, and at first was gonna buy the Klipsch 5502 or something similar, but then was looking around and found Goldenear as well as B&W CWM 7.4 (I know these last two options are quite a bit more expensive which I dont mind spending if it will be that much better). I am going to a store on Sat to listen to the Goldenear, but does anyone else have any advice on a newbie setting this up???? Once I cut open the wall, these speakers will be staying for a long time....so i am a bit hesitant. Thanks much for any help anyone can provide -Ben

Looking for advice on how to setup a 3.1 home theater setup in my apartment. Already have 2 - Klipsch Heresy III's but just got a LG C9 77" so am new to the whole HT game. Was just using my Heresy's for music/records but currently have them linked to my TV and they sound fantastic. Know most suggest adding another Heresy III but as you can see space is limited in my NYC apt and my girlfriend would murder me to add another large speaker. So unfortunately visual appeal does have some stake in the game. Will be moving into a house/larger living area in a year or two, so I do want to invest in a solid setup (understanding I won't appreciate the full effect for anyone suggesting might be overkill for such a small space). Also read a bunch on the Klipsch Academy's being a solid Center, but those are tough to come by. Any suggestions on a Sub would be greatly appreciated and also anything on rear speakers for a future 5.1 buy (again would love all Heresy's but would probably need something smaller like bookshelf speakers as this would be more of a living area than a dedicated theater)

Hi I've searched far and wide for an answer to this, but haven't had any luck yet... Is there a receiver on the market which lets me play music through more than only two channels? I don't want to play it in surround, because music through surround mode gives zero sound. I want the sound that normally comes through the two front channels to come through my entire 5.1 setup. In regards to this, im not interested in downloading software that enables music services such as spotify to play with 5.1 or adding amps to my system. Im asking if there is a "all-in-one" solution, such as a receiver, that lets me play music through more than two channels?

Hey all, I am having a home built and Included with it is Klipsch CS-16C speakers in the living room for a 5.1 surround sound setup. I am currently looking for the right receiver to purchase to power these speakers. Can someone please help me out and give me a recommendation for a good receiver? Thinking about using a passive sound bar, Klipsch 440D, as the L/C/R for a 5.1 surround system in new house. 14x14x9 listening room with MLP about 9 ft from L/C/R. Bipolar surrounds. Hsu sub and Yamaha Aventage avr. Movies/TV about 80%. It seems that the tradeoff is L/R spacing and smaller drivers but benefiting from a relatively clean, neat front. The 20% music is mostly soft rock. I'm thinking that the 30 day return oprion gives me a chance to try it and if not happy then replace the bar with a proper L/C/R. Am I way off base with this approach ?

I recently made some changes about my home theater setup. I am hoping to get some advise and suggestion if there is anything wrong with my setup. My home theater walk through link: My current setup: Living Room: R28F, R-25C, R-14M, RS-25, Sony -DH800, Epson 142X (1080p Projector to 120 in screen). Master Bedroom: RP-280F, RP-450C, RP-250S, Onkyo TX-NR656 (100w @ 8ohom), Samsung UN65MU8000 ( 65 in 4k) Guest/Kid Room: Pending (probably going with a RF series set) My current concern is: Should I keep 5.1 in master bedroom, or get a pair of RP-160M/RP-150M for 7.1, or get RP-140SA for ceiling bounce atmos, or get RP-5800 ceiling speaker for atmos? As for atmos ceiling speaker, Any ceiling speaker recommendation? Micca M-8C 8 ($40/each), Polk Audio RC80i ($130/pair), Klipsch PRO-180RPC (ebay $250/each ), Klipsch 5800-C II (eba $225/each) ? I have a 5.1 system now ( RP-450C, RP-280F, RP-250S)

I just purchased the speakers mentioned in the title for a home theater setup. I will be using it mainly for movies/games and have a pioneer elite VSX-LX302 receiver. i ran through the MCACC calibration and it set my front R-26F to large and others to small with 100Hz crossover. It seems a little heavy on the bass with this setting and thought I would change the R-26F to small but I can only set one crossover setting for all speakers. If I keep it at 100Hz, is it even worth having the floor standing R-26F speakers? Or would I have been better suited with bookshelf speakers? Any help with crossover or bass knob settings would be greatly appreciated! R-26F = 38Hz - 24kHz R-25C = 82Hz - 24kHz R-14S = 83Hz - 24kHz R-12SW = 29Hz - 120Hz

Hi everyone, first time posting. I am putting together a 5.1 system to compliment a 4k tv and had a few questions about picking speakers. I currently have a subwoofer and a pair of R-15m's as part of a stereo system that I want to expand into the 5.1 system. I was planning on getting a pair of RP-250s' as my rear speakers. My main issue is picking center channel speakers and whether I need to upgrade my R-15m's to something beefier to match the center channel. I was looking at either the RP-450C and the RP-440C, I am not sure if there is much of a difference or if they will be overkill with just the R-15m's. So my question is, which center channel would be more advisable, and do I need to upgrade from the R15's? If I need to upgrade, does the left and right channel speaker need to match with the center, or does it not matter? For example, would it be advisable to pair the RP-450C with the RP-280F's and the RP-440C with the RP-260F's or does it not make a huge difference? I am also trying to pick a receiver, but it is difficult to differentiate between receivers. I am mainly looking at sony 7.2 receivers with HD audio, are they all mostly the same, or are their certain features I should look out for on them? And one last bonus question, are the RP-250's better rear channel speakers than regular bookshelf speakers? I am still learning how they work. I appreciate any advice you guys can give me.

Hi, After thirty years of waiting I'm finally getting a man cave and the only problem left is choosing a good sound system! The room is pretty small only 11ft across. Is the room too small for the larger packages RP280 or RP250? I've read that the speakers might be too large to produce good sound in smaller rooms, but I do want the richer and deeper sound which I guess the larger speakers are better at? Please help a novice, can I go with the larger speakers or is the rp160 a better choice?

Short version, need recommendations for a subwoofer for use with Klipsch Quintet 5.0 speakers to be used as a PC speaker surround system for games & music. Full story: My beloved Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 PC surround speakers finally bit the dust. It might be repairable, I think it's the transformer (progressively worse humming), but the control pod has been barely functional for years, so time to get something new I think. Except hardly anyone makes high quality PC surround systems anymore. Logitech used to (Z5500 I think) but they discontinued and replaced with something much poorer. So I've been cobbling together a system from parts. I started with Klipsch Quintet 5.0 speakers that were on sale at Newegg for $239 (still are until Monday I think). I searched high and low for a compact AV receiver, but nobody makes one - they are all standard audio/video equipment size - big.. But just by random chance I found a hybrid (tube/SS) barebones 5.1 amp that is small enough to fit on my desk. (Dared DV-6C if anyone's interested.) So now I need a compact reasonably priced sub to accompany the system. I watch no movies on it, it's just video games (hence the surround) and music. So I want something crisp and clean - games do not rely on low frequency effects in the same way that movies do. So looking for a compact, tight sub in the $200 range that complements the Quintets. Doesn't need a ton of power, it will sit right under my desk. Also should have a speaker-level input, as the 5.1 amp does not have any other outputs (I said it was bare-bones. 5.1 channel analog RCA inputs, 2 channel analog auxiliary RCA inputs, 6 speaker terminal pairs and that's it). Looks like I missed all the sale pricing of the Klipsch SW-350 as it has been in the process of being discontinued I think - that might have been perfect. (SW-450 is on sale for $199 at newegg, but it's too big. For reference, the old ProMedia sub was 15"Lx11"Wx12"H) Any recommendations?

Can anyone here help me find some information on the Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1 computer speakers/sub? I am curious what room capacity is it able to fill with sound if I was to consider using this set for a small reception style gathering. I have the dimensions (including height) of the rooms that are in question but does anyone know off hand the area (or better yet volume) of room (assume rectangular shape) that this speaker set can fill? Thanks!

Theoretically movies *should* sound better on Blu Ray than on DVD, but have you ever found the reverse to be true? We watched the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy over the weekend to test out the Heresy HIP mains + center channel. So many scenes now pack a wallop it's unbelievable. That said, the voice tracks, organic sound effects and even some of the LFE's seem to sound more natural with more fullness, on DVD than on Blu Ray. Is it possible that Blu Ray tracks are more compressed? FWIW, our setup is: Yamaha RX-A3000 (HDMI) Oppo BDP-93 (HDMI) Panasonic VT-50 plasma (HDMI) Klipsch Heresy HIP 1 (left, right & center) KG 3.5 (rear surrounds) Hsu Research VTF-3 Mk IV sub Just curious if anyone else has noticed this. I am the only owner of this system, having purchased it directly from Bose. The system is in near perfect shape and includes: > Bose Acoustimass 6 Series II Subwoofer and 5 single cube speakers ($200) > Bose VCS10 Center Channel ($100) > Bose OEM UFS20 Speaker Stands (2 pair, 4 stands total) ($100) > Manual I took great care of this system and it's ready to go for the next owner. The only flaw in the entire system is that when taking out the speaker wires from the stands, 2 of them had the cover tear a bit. The simple solution here is just to cut off the first few feet of the wires on those 2. The system comes with 50 feet of wire (25 to the sub, 25 to the system) so cutting off a couple feet will make no difference. The cubes are spring loaded, a couple of them are tight fits, but work just fine. They have always been that way, nothing has changed. They sound exactly like they should, no cosmetic flaws and no damage to any of the system. Asking $400 for the complete system. Am not planning to part it out but have shown the breakdown of the costs so that you can understand where the number comes from. With the 5 cubes and center, you can create a 6.1 system if you like, or use as a 5.1 with a spare cube. I plan to put this out on EBay within the next day or two but wanted to offer to forum members first as I have had great experiences working with members in the past. Once on Ebay it will have a bid option so once a bid is placed, I won't be able to sell it here anymore. Please PM me, I am very responsive. Is it possible to run a 5.1 setup with the surround sound speakers being set / placed / used as the "high surround speakers". I was playing with my AVR last night and could get the receiver to recognize and play test tones through the speakers set as high surrounds but only that was only an option after selecting I did in fact also have typical surrounds. The receiver would only play the test tones through the setup as I intended it to be and not try to search for / find the typical surrounds but after completing the Audssey calibration however it wouldn’t recognize the speakers at all. This was while trying to run the corrected Audssey calibration and dynamic eq; which is how I preferred to run the system. I did not however try or recall the system recognizing the system as I intend in the manual set up. I played around with the audio formatting (DTS, DTS-HD and so on) and never could get the receiver to recognize the speakers / sound to come out. I tried this on HD cable shows, Blu-ray movies in both 5.1 and 7.1 through my PS3 and PS4, and even tried it through internet radio. Is this just not a typical 5.1 setup? Is it an audio formatting issue with trying to do a 5.1 with high surrounds? Is the use of “high surrounds” only limited to a true 7.X and higher speaker setups? Of note, I prefer to run the setup in this manner because I am renting so therefore prefer not to rip up carpet, I live in a two story house and the living room in on the first floor so I think going over head is also out of the question. Also the way the living room is set up it would be a nightmare to try and run along or behind the base boards; but I guess that is my only option if I can’t run this set up as I prefer. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated! -
Hello all, So I've had my set up for a few weeks now and have throughly enjoyed it; however I have noticed at higher volumes the smaller speakers just can't keep up to the sub. If I turn the sub way down its still like the smaller speakers just aren't getting very loud. I shot Klipsch support line an email and apparently my receiver isn't producing enough power and could actually damage the speakers. Bellow is my current set up. According to Klipsch I need at least 150 watts to run the F-30 floor speakers to their potential? I had a old set of ProMedia 5.1 500w'rs that i loved but they kinda caught on fire... So i have been looking for a new sound system for my PC and there really are no good systems out there anymore... Is there any information if Klipsch is maybe working on something? I know there is a LOT of people that would love to see Klipsch back on the market for PC's... -
Sorry search did not find topic not even same ones found googling so am probably adding 2^8 post on same topic. Mine is about 12 years old. Was using subwoofer only. Worked fine. Moved it across room for new AV install. Also accidentally removed front panel from control box. Put back in. Is plugged into a new surge protector. Plugged a light into same outlet which worked fine. Next step will be continuity check on the power cable make sure cable ok as did put it through a cable management strip. Although a computer pro by trade did have 2 years electronics in high school plus semester digital electronics in college (A+). I can find my way to an internal fuse panel and put things back together. Q: Does anyone know if there is a kill fuse that if opening the control box would make it stop working? Electronics makers sometimes use that to keep out reverse engineering. Q: Does anyone know if can create or buy a 9 Pin DIN jumper to permanently wire the system on and max out the volume? However does not seem likely from the looks of it the DIN control cable termination which looks like pull up resistors on the main circuit board inside the control box probably sends digital signals to the subwoofer enclosure. Q: Read googling an old Klipsch forum post about replacing the fuse.
