  1. Has anyone had Yamaha and Onkyo receivers with Klipsch speakers and would like to give their input on the tonal differences?
  2. Klipsch people, I have a set of KG4s that I purchased. I want to get an amp for them. Just sold my TX-8050. Right now I'm using a Klipsch Powergate. Feel free to comment. Take me to the cleaners. I'm doing the best I can. On a budget, if you know what I mean. I was thinking about the Onkyo a-9110. A guy on a website that it wouldn't be able to drive the KG4s well. Is this true? So I went back to looking at Yamahas. I want to try to keep it under $330. Right now, I've got a guy who will sell me a slightly used a-s501 for $330. Got to drive an hour to get it. An option, but there are important members of my family who think that is a waste of my time. Then there's some a-s500s laying around on internet sites for even less. I'm not sure I need the DACs in the a-s501. Then there's the receiver r-n50x and r-s50x. And then, finally, there's always an a-s301. Any recommendations here? I feel a bit bewildered. I know some of you are going to tell me to test them, but I live in the middle of nowhere, and not a lot of time. I want things to sound good. I don't need to overpower my middle-sized living room. Help me. Please.

  4. Yamaha C-40 pre-amp and M-40 amp for sale in Miami. Both were in my system up to six months ago and work perfectly. The pre-amp has a renowned phono stage. $500 for the pair, for pick up only in North Miami-Dade county Florida. (I might even drive them to you in Dade or Broward if not too distant.) PM me if interested. Thanks.
  5. Hello sirs, I have been using RP-8000F and Yamaha A-S801 combo for quite some time now, listening to anything that can be listened to. It sounds alright with generally non-bass-heavy music like classic rock, but falls literally flat with anything relying on low-end. This manifests itself on certain compositions, and a vivid example is Massive Attack – Inertia Creeps. As soon as the drums start, it feels like -15dB below 140 Hz. Each kick there has no immediate impact and a very faint “rumbling” bass after. This is true for any input on A-S801 and any source – RCA (with or without direct mode) from a MacBook, bluetooth dongle or external preamp; vinyl with or without built-in phono; or built-in DAC. The same sources sound “properly” in the drums part on any of the headphones or other sets of speakers I have, but exhibit the said problem with A-S801 outputting into RP-8000F. Also, there is typically barely any movement from the woofers of RP-8000F, even on very bass-heavy music. The overall volume can already be close to unbearable before the cones have visible movement. This does not make a lot of sense to me as the cone suspension is not that stiff – not a car subwoofer level of stiff. Interestingly, the bass is decent while listening to anything with rumbling / splashing / slamming low end, e.g. DJ Shadow – Suicide Pact; Run The Jewels – Lie, Cheat, Steal; Xzibit – Lax. But there is only so much I listen can listen to of that sort. I happened to try RP-8000F with a very cheap 15W amp for several days, and the difference in the low end to A-S801 was staggering. The room, cabling and the sources were the same. It was apparent that the amp struggled at times, but it just sounded like a pair of floorstanders with impactful bass on any composition that had it. The cones of the woofers were also visibly moving from mid volumes – to the extent you would expect from a 2-woofer setup. What could be the reason for that behaviour with RP-8000F and A-S801 combo? Are there any obvious specs of A-S801 that just do not go with RP-8000F, which I should avoid with future amps? Also, any proven amp recommendations within USD 2.5k would be greatly appreciated. For now I am looking to give a listen to Cambridge Audio CXA61 (CXA 81?) and Yamaha A-S1200. TLDR: The low end of RP-8000F plus A-S801 combo sounds extremely underwhelming and flat, whereas a random 15W / USD 20 amp shakes the world with the same sources and the same room. What could be the problem? Recommended amps to go with RP-8000F within USD 2.5k?

  7. Hi Guys, I have a Yamaha Aventage A1010 receiver which I use to drive two floorstander (JBL Northridge E90), a centre (Klipsch RC42) and a subwoofer (Velodyne Impact Mini 6.5"). I have multi-purpose use for music and movies. I was contemplating to purchase Klipsch RF 7 II or Klipsch RF 7 III, but I have a few questions in my mind. I would appreciate if you experts can help me out. 1. Would the Yamaha Aventage A1010 be able to fully exploit the Klipsch RF 7II / III? or should I replace the receiver? 2. In case I decide to pick an amplifier, then Does this chain work ..... Yamaha Aventage A1010 - Amplifier (2 channel- to drive the front left/right with amplifier and rest will be driven by the receiver) - Klipsch RF 7II? 3. It yes, then what amplifier should I get? 4. What is the difference between a AV receiver and a Pre-Amplifier ? My Yamaha Aventage is capable of giving out 7.2 channel pre-out, is that same as getting a pre-amplifier? Basically my listening room / home theatre is about 20 ft long and 17ft wide. I need the system to deliver ear bleeding volume and clarity for music and movies. P.S After buying the Klipsch RF7II/III, budget will be a concern (the finance secretary has approved the klipsch RF7II with great hesitation). Thanks in advance. Pach
  8. Hello, I am thinking of doing an upgrade/update to my processor, from a Sunfire TGP-III to possibly a Yamaha CX-A5100 for a 5.2 system? Judging STRICTLY by sound quality, not bells and whistles or any other criteria, purely talking about sound, would it be and upgrade or a downgrade?? Any thoughts?? Thank you!!! 9. Hi there, currently looking for an amplifier (integrated or separate) for my RF-82 II's. After some time searching i have found the integrated Yamaha A-S801 or separate Emotiva BasX PT-100 and BasX A-300 that both seems like a good match. Any opinions on these, or any other amps that would be a good match in the same price range? Both are around 1200$ in my country.
  10. Looking to trade my vintage Yamaha NS-1000M speakers with original speaker grills and stands, and Yamaha MX-2 Power Amplifier. Looking for Klipsch heritage speakers or a high end tube amplifier. I am in Central Florida.
  11. I have an Yamaha RX-A770 (Rated Output Power (20Hz-20kHz, 2ch driven, 95 W (8 ohms, 0.06% THD) Considering upgrading my speakers to a pair of Klipsch RP-260Fs and a RP-450C. Will my receiver be powerful enough? Wife doesn't like it "too loud" so I am hoping based on that I will be ok. I also have a SVS SB-1000.
  12. I wasn't actively looking but I had my eye out for a CR-2040 for years. I finally picked one up here recently with a case that was scuffed up a bit and a few marks on the face plate. I removed the knobs and did a light treatment with the magic eraser to find that the face place and controls were perfect! Hmmm... I'm going to have to make the cabinet match! Anybody who thinks Yamaha doesn't have low end hasn't heard the 2040! It was sounding pretty good but there was that familiar grainy sound that I've heard from other tired old caps so I took the electronics to @paul79 at Many Moons Audio for a complete rebuild. While the innards are at Paul's for a spa treatment that will give me plenty of time to get the cabinet fixed up. Well, that empty cabinet has been staring at me long enough so I guess I will get started.
  13. I'm planning to buy Klipsch RF-82 II & Yamaha A-S801 but I'm concerned about their compatibility. I watched some videos where it is recommended to buy an integrated amp with at least 50% more power than speakers' power. According to this advice, these two are not compatible. RF-82 II's power is 150W where A-S801 sends 100W per channel. But there are issues about sensitivity too. So can anyone tell me if Yamaha A-S801 is going to be enough for RF-82 II? Thank you in advance. Cem A-S801 specs: http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/hifi-components/amps/a-s801/ RF-82 II specs: http://images.klipsch.com/RF82II_635042119237310000.pdf

  15. Hello, I'm forced to change my amp in following "desktop" setup: notebook -> Audioquest Dragonfly v1.2 -> Wireworld Luna 7 -> Denon PMA-720 AE -> Oehlbach Bi-tech 4 -> Klipsch RB-81 II. My budget for amp is 550 € (610 $). Local dealers offer mostly Cambridge Audio, Marantz, NAD, Yamaha and Onkyo. Any recommendations? I'm also considering a DAC upgrade. Something like Cambridge Audio DAC Magic Plus would be nice. Do you think it's a good idea or should I look for more expensive amp with build-in DAC instead? One way or another I need to buy a USB cable... Any advices regarding a cable company with reasonable prices considering my budget and setup. As for genres. I'm listening to all of them
  16. Finally got the hi if up and running after 15 yrs of cold (Colorado) and hot (Phoenix) storage. As documented elsewhere, I got a set of la Scala about a month ago. Due to a dead CD player I powered them with a Pioneer boom box. Surprisingly, this sounded quite good. A whole lot better than the I pod dock I had been listening to. Well, my wife turned up a Yamaha CDC-585 at a yard sale for a fin. Hooked this to the existing Yamaha C-60 pre and M-65 amp and got ready to listen to awesome stereo. I got awesome mono. No left channel. Bummer. A bit of t/s and a loose output connection on the pre was found. A dab of solder later and the schweeet sounds were heard. I expected improvement, but the increase in fidelity was most astounding. Tracks which were muffled before were now crystal. This is the Yamaha sound I remember.I think I will be enjoying this for a while.

  20. Would anyone happen to have experience running a Yamaha Integrated amplifier with the original Klpisch forte'? or even Marantz I have my eyes on these models Marantz PM6005, Marantz PM5005, Yamaha A-S301, and the Yamaha A-S501. Which would sound best with the forte? if at all, and would the 45 watts even be enough if i went with the Marantz? if neither of these would be a good choice it would be greatly appreciated if someone more experienced than myself could recommend a different make. but I have a $700-$800- budget rather stay around the $500 mark, opinions and recommendations would be great! let me know what you guys think.
  21. Evening all... Well, as some of you know, I was in the market for a new amp, and based on a few recommendations, and a lot of wavering between a couple of different units, I purchased a Yamaha A-S2100. I cam home from work today, and within an hour the UPS truck pulled up to drop of my much anticipated purchase. Initial inspection showed no apparent damage to the packaging so by all appearances, the unit had a safe journey. After enjoying a wonderful meal prepared by my wife, it was time to unpack. I cleared a space on my cabinet to temporarily accommodate the new unit, and with utility knife in hand, ever so carefully begun to cut away the packing tape, fighting back the excitement. Pulling it from it's packing, I set the unit in it's temporary location and admired the denseness of the unit. Almost as if chiseled from a block of aluminum, it was heavy, and very sturdy in feel. A quick inspection for damage revealed no visible flaws, dents or scratches, and I was impressed with it's overall fit and finish. As I proceeded to make the necessary connections to give this beauty a test drive, I opted to forgo connecting my equalizer and run the bass and treble flat on the unit for the initial experience, if for no other reason than to just hear its native tone. I power up the unit, and queue up 10,000 Maniacs - In My Tribe. It's difficult to give you a review of what I heard, as I have very little experience with a very small sampling of audio equipment, and can only compare to what I have been using for the last 10 years or so. Let me say, I wasn't impressed...... I was absolutely floored. The clarity from this unit was the first thing I noticed. Very crisp and accurate. There also seemed to be an evenness across the mid-range and highs. The HK unit seemed as if the highs dominated and really stepped over the mids. The bass response was good. I live in the low-end, probably much more so than most, but it was certainly enjoyable and seemed more detailed, and not so muddy. If I had to make a complaint, the only one so far is that when adjusting the treble or bass, the unit clicks and briefly stops playing. It's almost as if when in the flat position, it is "off". When you turn to adjust the level, it turns "on", clicks and stops playing for a second. Is this normal to Yamaha units? I hope to find some time this weekend to check out the phono amp, as well as open the unit up a bit and keep the neighbors pissed. I want to send a special thanks to those that responded in my other thread that helped me to make this purchase. In my ears, it was the right one.
