  1. I’ve got 1992 AK-3 klipschorns. I’ve had them for about 2 years and never been completely happy with the sound. The upper range sounds a bit bright and harsh to me. I’ve swapped out amps and am now actually using a biamped configuration with a decware “Rachel” powering the squawker and tweeter and a parasound a23+ the bass bins. I’ve tried each of those on their own as well as an adcom 555ii on its own. I’ve used digital EQ (not analog) and this helps tame the beast. I haven’t done digital room correction. But I am now using a active dsp to apply EQ and split the frequency crossovers for bass and upper in the line level preamp signal. Are there good 3rd party options to improve the sound? I’ve been doing a bit of reading and of course everyone has a different opinion. Some love the mid driver & horn while others really believe it’s inferior. I ran across the person selling a build your own Eliptrac 400 2-inch elliptic wood tractrix replacement horn. Would this MDF horn really offer an improvement on its own with the existing driver? There is also a modifier you need to attach it to the driver. This sounds a tad “clugey”. Has anyone swapped the horn out? Are there any other horn or driver/diaphragm options? Are there any crossover changes upgrades I can and should make noting that I’m still using the upper speaker level crossover to divide between the 2 upper drivers.
  2. Someone put me out of my misery here please. I’m trying to gain access to the bass bin crossover in my ak3 1992 klipschorn. I took off the input panel but that doesn’t provide enough room. i can tell that the crossover is mounted inside to the right of the input connector box. That box is connected to a 2’x2k piece of plywood. I took out all 9 screws attaching the plywood piece that the ak3 is mounted to but that piece of plywood does not seem to be coming apart from the larger side piece. It’s like it’s glued down too. Is that piece not designed to ever come off? so my next option would be to remove the entire left side of the bottom unit. I didn’t count but it has about 2 dozen screws. Before I remove all of them only to find out it too does not detach, can anyone tell me if or if not this is the way to go to gain access to the lower ak3?
  3. Hello everybody I am new to this forum and please forgive me if I get to the point with the first post straight away. I have tried to find the correct place to ask the following questions and I hope I am not entirely wrong. I own a Hi-Fi system that consists of the following parts: - Two loudspeakers: Klipsch Klipschorn AK-3, made 1985 - Record player: Micro Seiki 1500, made between 1981 and 84 - Tonearm: SME 3012-RG Limited Edition, 24 carat gold, made between 1981 and 84 (without box) --- Cartridge: Ortofon Super OM 10 (old) - 2nd tonearm: Dynavector DV 507 --- Cartridge: Van Den Hull DDT - Amplifier: Denon PMA 725R - Speaker cable: Original Monster Cable (high resolution speaker cable with Durallex insulation) - CD player: Denon UCD-F10 Now I want to sell the whole thing (doesn't have to get out as a set). The reasons, well, on the one hand are of a very private nature (it has to do with a death in my family and corresponding emotions), on the other hand I have had a tinnitus since a sudden hearing loss, which clouds the hearing experience. And for these reasons it would be nice if someone owns the system and enjoys it more than I can. I'm stuck at the point at which I want to define the prices. I can only find vague information. I don't have a clue, especially with the speakers. (The SME tonearm probably moves around 5K in Euros or 6K in USD , the Dynavector tonearm around 3K in Euros or 3.5K in USD, the Micro Seiki turntable apparently at 5K in Euros or 6K in USD.) Maybe one of you may help me with her / his expertise? What can I demand for the two AK-3? (Am I still in line with the prices for the other devices?) Did I fail to see something? I am extremely grateful for any help. I'm from Switzerland, Europe, btw. Best regards.
