tommyboy
Does anyone own this receiver? I'm thinking, just thinking, about selling my Pioneer to get this one. I am totally digging the sound of my PA 2100 I just picked up, but at the same time, Id hate to sell my Pioneer, which I love, and get the AVR 354, and there not be much of a sound difference. Thoughts???
soulman
Just my .$.02, but why not just purchase the just released HK 3550HD? Very similar specs and a newer model. This is a model I have been thinking about myself. Scott
Bill H.
Looks pretty good and J & R is selling for 700.00. http://www.bizrate.com/receivers/harman-kardon-avr-3550hd-7.1-channel-home-theater-receiver--pid983614456/compareprices.html
tommyboy
That would be a possibility. But the 354 is going for around 460 right now. It's till just a thought. Like I said, I'd hate to sell mine, go with a HK, and there not be much of a sound difference......
falcon20x
I really like both, but the HK has a warmer sound which is giving it an edge for music while the Pioneer has an easier interface. If movie watching is your main interest stay with the Pionner
tommyboy
Thanks falcon! I sort of figured as much. I run the F2's with the HK amp, and you're right. It definitely is a warmer sound with music. I'll hold off for a while, but probably will get an HK when it's time for a new receiver. Thoughts??? Get the HK 254 and use it (pre out) in conjunction with the Pioneer (It does have 7.1 input, doesn't it?). That way you have full use of both. The BluRay can be connected to the HK. You'll love the HK for clarity of sound and HDMI capability. Inexpensive way out too. Frank
rescueu2
I have the AVR 354 and Love it. It has had it's ups and downs but H/K has fixed most of the bugs with the firmwear update. The output is rated at 75 WPC but it is under rated. I trialed an Onkyo 806 and choose the H/K because it sounded much clearer. Great AVR for a great price.
