You're right, a Sharpie (or other "Magic Marker") has a purplish tint. It is not all that noticeable, however, except upon close inspection.

I have a pair of pretty beat KG4.5s that are missing a lot of paint. I had been planning on sanding them down and repainting them, but picked up a Sharpie one day and started coloring in the areas of missing paint. Turned out pretty good. You can see the difference if you're looking for it, but most people don't notice. Not a perfect match by any means, but it beats bare wood showing through.
