CLOSING SCHOOLS AS A PRECAUTION = GOOD

-Small confined spaces with lots of people coming in close contact offers many opportunities to spread the flu. Close the school, clean it top to bottom, and keep kids from coming into such close contact.

ADVICE NOT TO TRAVEL IN SMALL CONFINED SPACES LIKE AIRPLANES = BAD

-Don't be silly - there is no risk here. Don't panic. Joe didn't MEAN if you're "healthy" - he meant don't do this if you're "sick."

So let's sort it out. Small confined spaces with many people coming in close contact is to be avoided if you are under 18, but ok if you are over 18?

I think I can help you here Mark. The H1N1 virus can only survive in small enclosed spaces with lots of people in the space if the space is stationairy, like a classroom. If the small enclosed space with lots of people in it moves, like on a train, plane, or automobile, the virus gets motion sickness and has to leave the small enclosed space so you are safe becasue in reality the virus simly will not board the vessel. CDC is working on a dramamine patch for virus to help it become mobile so we can close down air, rail and POV travel.

The swine is telling the human 'you killed us all'.

NO FLU FOUND IN U.S. OR MEXICAN HOGS
John Clifford, deputy administrator for veterinary services at the Agriculture Department, told a Senate panel Wednesday that no cases of the so-called “swine flu” have been reported in hogs in either the United States or Mexico. “To their knowledge thus far, they have no pigs with this virus,” Clifford said. The flu’s name was causing “undue alarm” among countries that import U.S. pork, he pointed out. See the full article in the Des Moines Register.

PORK IS SAFE TO EAT
Our friends at the Wisconsin Pork Association continue to work on the local and state level to help carry the message to media and consumers that pork is safe to eat, and that you cannot get this virus from eating pork or pork products.

SMITHFIELD TESTING PIGS IN MEXICO
Smithfield Foods on Wednesday conducted additional tests on pigs at a jointly owned farm in Mexico to make sure the animals are not infected with the hybrid Type A H1N1 virus that has caused a global influenza outbreak, according to CEO C. Larry Pope. In a letter to employees, Pope wrote that the results of those independent laboratory tests will be available and made public in a few days. He issued the letter, meant to assure employees that Smithfield is taking steps to ensure their safety and that of the company's pig herds, after international media reports indicated a link between the outbreak and a jointly owned hog farm in Veracruz. Veracruz is located near La Gloria; home to a little boy some believe to be the original H1N1 case. Pope reiterated that the company as well as U.S., Mexican and other international health officials have inspected the company’s farms in Veracruz and found no evidence of the virus in pigs. The company also has found no evidence of the virus in any of its employees worldwide.

MEXICAN OFFICIAL: FLU GENETICS ARE ASIAN, EUROPEAN
According to a story in the Wall Street Journal, the genetic material found in the H1N1 flu virus is of European and Asian origin, not North American origin. Mexico's top government epidemiologist, Miguel Ángel Lezana, told the WSJ that it is “highly improbable” a farm in the Mexican state of Veracruz operated by Smithfield Foods Inc. is responsible. That word comes after a flurry of charges issued earlier this week by groups with extreme views in opposition to modern livestock production methods. Several groups made accusations directly at Smithfield and the Veracruz facility.

DISPELLING MYTHS ABOUT EATING PORK AND GETTING THE FLU
The National Pork Board has posted a new website at www.factsaboutpork.com. This site has main messages that outline that there is no connection between eating pork and getting H1N1 flu, how modern pork production practices protect animal and human health, and that this strain of flu has not been identified in hogs in the U.S. or anywhere in the world.

CAIRO – Egypt began slaughtering the roughly 300,000 pigs in the country Wednesday as a precaution against swine flu even though no cases have been reported here, infuriating farmers who blocked streets and stoned vehicles of Health Ministry workers who came to carry out the government's order.

Why are their 300,000 pigs in egypt anyway. Hardly anyone there will eat them or touch them. Heck the county I'm from back in Iowa has more pigs than that.

300M people live in US

Assume 20% infection rate SEASONAL FLU = 60M infected

36,000 deaths (2007 est) = 36,000/60,000,000 = 0.0006 = 0.06% mortality

Season flu seasons lasts 3 months = 13,000 deaths/mo.

PROBABILITY OF DYING FROM SEASONAL FLU = 36,000/300,000,000 = 0.000012 = 0.0012% morbidity

20M people live in Mexico City

Assume 20% infection rate SWINE FLU = 4M infected

IF SWINE FLU has the same infection, mortality and duration as seasonal flu we should have about 2400 deaths by end of June

OR 800 deaths/mo.

After about a month into it, they've got less than 200, 1/4 of the rate required to meet seasonal flu rate.

Always made me wonder when reading the Old and New Testaments, why the Jews would raise swine, unless it was just a business to sell to the gentiles.

noone answered my question earlier and i need to know this. I am aware that sex with monkeys might of or could of or was the cause of HIV> Although im not sure if having sex with pigs will cause an infection of this virus unto the human. Does anyone have any experience with this ?

Has anyone mentioned the boogie woogie flu?

It's been infecting forum members at pandemic levels for years.

It's not at all unusual to say "what's your temp up to?" and the answer is 102 or 103 db.

There is no known cure, but Klipsch speakers do help ease the symptoms.

Not something many talk about in public but it is real and more widespread than you would think. I would think many people here has had it for a long time even if they are a little embarrassed to admit it.

It's kind of a strange flu, when around others most people will catch it but there are a few who will never get it for some reason. They came out with something years ago to try and slow the spread, ( bose cubes) the general public bought into it in masses. That cure never really worked, it only tends to suppress the symptoms until that strain of flu comes in contact with a much better form of transmitter, then theres no going back to the cube treatment. Although sales of the cube treatment is still high it's widely known to only get you by and does not cure the problem which seems unstoppable !
