I had not seen this before, but a retired US Navy pilot friend of mine forwarded it to me. It's a very powerful video. I got chills in viewing this.

The Marines of Makin Island

In the early days of WW II the Marine raiders attacked Makin Island and left behind 19 dead Marines after asking the islanders to make sure that they received a proper burial. In 1999 the remains were discovered. This is a touching tribute.

My ex father-in-law served in the pacific war, in the Navy. 17 year year old kids doing things that required an Everest amount of courage, commonly. And the Japanese were then at the pinnacle of their warfare culture. They were inhuman in too many horrific ways. Respect does not say enough for these men who died so young, so violently. Welcome home. Rest in eternal peace.
