IndyFest 2009 TAMF2009 - Roadie Gear

Recommended Posts

I've never been, or pretended to be, a roadie before.

What is the minimal proper gear or a better question, what should we bring if we have it?

I'm bringing along whatever coolers I can scrounge up for food. And maybe a water cooler or two. Other than that my bubba keg mug (52 ounce insulated mug) for water.

lets see, we've done a bit of this before- it's the contents of my Roadie drawer in my main rack (don't feel that you need to bring this)

Duct tape, silver, black, white

Sharpie for marking board (I bring white electrical tape for this)

ipod hookup wires and spares

extra guitar and effects pedal cords

drum key

littlelite for board

small paint brush for dusting board

towel

another towel

yet another towel

clipboard and paper for notating channel assignments and set lists

flashlight minimag

spare SM58 for 'yellback' mic

shortie mic cable for above

gender changer cords and misc patch cords (at least one pair of every type used in main rig)

RCA-1/4 adapters, for some reason you can never get enough of these, I think they are migratory

I am planning on bring mine. Purple. In a black holster. Like I'll have any use for it in bright sunlight but maybe in the shadows when the time comes to dismantle.

Duct tape, silver, black, white

Rarely do we not have at least silver duct tape in the mini-van. I'll have to remember to leave it when I clean it out.

I was thinking a few band aids, some tylenol, ibuprofen, immodium types of things might be handy to have on hand

I'll leave my sharpie at home. You can write on your board. Not me. Not until I've passed Roadie's Roadie School

Like I'll need any of the rest of it or even remotely have most of the audio type things.

I do have an iPod cord or two hanging around... but my mp3 player (implied by iPod cord no?) is a dinosaur Creative Labes Zen xTra

Towels, I might need towels. Wipe the sweat off so "they" can't see it. Roll up for nap pillow. All kinds of uses.

I was really close to getting a Furman power protection device and a littlelite to plug in the back but too low on funds.... would've had the Furman except missed the closeout..

Though potentially useful, I'll leave any club like devices such as old tee ball and softball bats at home. This is a relatively friendly venue with security and I really don't want to get tasered trying to convince some punk he can't have Michaels Shure microphone.... let the punk get tasered instead. Or just practice my roadie don't you even think about messing with my equipment scowl.... so nobody gets tasered as it does not look like fun...

I was planning on bringing a chair or two for backstage.

Had thought about bring a camera and even video camera but too much crap to tote around and worry about and I'm sure much better equipment and talent will be snapping / taping away... that said my wife's cut little pink Canon Elph can be strapped to one's belt and not be too noticeable. And our video camera is very compact though may see if family can videotape Alea's soccer game that I'll be missing. She'll probably do something amazing but might be hard to top an assist and goal in recent games though it would be nice to capture such on video.

nowdays I work for a band that has their own trailer and gear (powered Mackie stuff with PreSonus console) so my gear rarely leaves the house. I'm also at a theater where the heaviest object lifted is a couple small stage monitors. Lots of lighting work there though. My stuff needs to be sold to someone who can use it.
