Political correctness is exactly why this happened. If this POS survives I hope he is mistreated and tortured by his guards and care givers.

I can not believe that he was able to pull this off without getting shot sooner. I will defer any gun control comments as per the rules.

I am beside my self with anger over this. Evan/ Harry O- totally agree

How can you compare soldiers in combat to unarmed subjects in a no weapons situation??????? I stand by what I say. I am glad he may survive as a paralized vegetable at the hands of the brothers in arms of the people he slaughtered.Ask the familes of the victims if they share your views. I hoper suffwers greatly. These are our kids you are talking about. No degree of pain and suffering would be enough. Turn this POS over to the families of the victims. that would be JUSTICE.

I got a news flash for you- The members of "the religion of peadce" have been beheading- raping female soldiers- and torturing/killing captives a long time before thjis latest gesture of peace took place.

Whatever...I would suggest you calm down, unload your weapon and switch on your "spell checker".

The more I'm learning about this tradgedy the harder it hits me.

I'm hearing a lot of factors that when you throw 'em in the pot it's gonna boil over.

Like many a disturbed soul that would commit an act like this, there's more than one issue that's caused this.

As a former member of the U.S. Military system......Well, let's just say I've been given many an order that's beyond my comprehension and NOT what I would call intelligent. Even in hindsight.

Bad situation here boys and girls. I hope they fix it so it don't happen again.

There's been a lot of killin' in the name of religeon, love, money, and where I come from....don't kick a man's dog either. Stupidity can be thrown in the mix too. I've never been to a shrink (might shoulda gone a couple of times) and lord only knows what runs through their minds. I hope this weren't over a Nascar wreck or something serious. Coulda been a #3 fan run amuck.

There's a bunch of "what if's and how come's" here.

Let 'em sort it out and get it fixed.

Decisions related to the welfare and safety of our troops, allegedly made in the name of political "correctness", or to be more blunt - as to not even remotely possibly or potentially offend someone of another creed, regardless of the circumstances, has again.... come back to bite us in the as*. The good Major should have been gone long before he decided to "express" his dislike for the war......

Spell check this......-typical tactic for people who have no logical response to an argument- personal attack. .

It came out today that he stated to other doctors that "infidels- (us) should be beheaded and have hot oil poured down their throats".. nice

It has also been reported that the motherlesss coward is now awake. I hope they waterboard him before somebody puts a bullet in his head

I'll drink to that--oops, wrong thread. I hate my generation because I think my generation started this decline. Good music came from the 60s; but, so did a lot of crap that is doing some serious damage. Years ago, I was part of a military honor guard detail at a memorial day event. The event was LONG and it was HOT. I was holding the American Flag and the guy next to me was about to pass out. he told me a few times that he couldn't last much longer. opting to break formation and walk away instead of fainting--he did. An old-timer from WWII was in the crowd. He immediately went to the ailing serviceman, grabbed the rifle and took his position in the formation. he stood beside me for the duration of the ceremony--a real old man displaying a love of his country and a respect for it's tradition. This country has done a lot more good than bad in it's history--and that old man knew that. I don't think you'd find that character in someone from my generation.

The guy deserves his day in court. Period!

I believe in our country, it's rules, constitution, and what it stands for. First and foremost.

He's a member of our armed forces.

He wouldn't be the first wack job that lost it in the services.

IF..yes IF...It's a personal attack on our system then please choose me to "pull the switch", "fire the bullet", or drop the gas tab on his sorry azz. AFTER we interrogate him at one of our "Secret Interrogation Bases" for a couple of years.

But ONLY after due process of OUR laws. It's what sets us apart from some other forms of government around the globe. Being military, a different set of military laws will take precedent. It won't be easy on him. Nor should it be easy on him.

May justice be done and may peace be found for his victims.

I need to learn more, but can't imagine that political correctness had anything to do with it, unless those who are quoting the shooter didn't report those incedents up their chain of command. Insofar as Military Personnel expressing dislike for the war in Iraq, there are differing views and here is one example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Tillman EDIT: {deleted}

I don't know, of course, but it sounded to me more like sending a problem case elsewhere to get rid of him and also maybe a chance of his working out better there. Kind of like sending pedophile priests to another parish. MO only.

I saw an interview with a fellow Dr at fort hood. Sounds like the shooter had as many as 500 patients. The Army does not have a support system for the Dr's. That is a lot of horific stories to hear and a lot of people to be strong for with no outlet.

A great observation, John. From Sunday's NYTimes: Painful Stories Take a Toll on Military Therapists (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/08/us/08stress.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=a%20military%20therapist's%20world&st=cse)."Many military professionals, meanwhile, describe crushing schedules with 10 or more patients a day, most struggling with devastating trauma or mutilated bodies that are the product of war and the highly advanced care that kept them alive.

Some of those hired to heal others end up needing help themselves. Some go home at night too depressed to talk to their children. Others, like Bret A. Moore, a former Army psychologist at Fort Hood, ultimately quit.

“I planned for a career in the military, but I burned out” after about five years, he said...

... Dr. Hasan was reportedly facing his first deployment — a prospect that scares even trained fighters, many of whom become increasingly frantic before going to war, according to surveys.

The workload itself is enough to give psychiatrists and psychologists pause. In Iraq, with sectarian violence at its peak in 2007, officials say there were 200 such specialists serving more than 130,000 troops, driving between bases on bomb-rigged roads...

... Few who are deployed feel prepared for this punishing task...

At Fort Hood, [he] treated a burly man whose job in Iraq was to recover the bodies of soldiers. His patient was devastated by one particular loss, Dr. Linnerooth said.

“He had picked up this corpse that was so badly burned, it weighed about 20 pounds,” he said. “He was this big, tough, awesome guy. For him, it was like picking up his daughter. That was an extreme case. But you get those at least once or twice a week.”...

...“If this guy can go over the edge, imagine what it is like for the actual combat troops who have been through four or five deployments,” said Bryan Hannah, 22, a disabled Iraq war veteran from San Marcos, Tex., who was stationed at Fort Hood until he was discharged a year ago because of post-traumatic stress disorder and other injuries...

...“There are a lot of others who are worse off than him.”

while i accept the fact that he could just be a nutjob--i'm not about to ignore the fact that his mosque was reported to be one that preaches violence, and has labled him as a "hero." Associated Press reported that a "spiritual leader" at his mosque said that the only way a muslim can serve in the U.S. armed forces is to follow in the footsteps of men like nidal. the guy worshipped at a mosque alongside of some of the 911 terrorists. people at fort hood said his eyes lit up when he spoke of Anwar al-Awlaki's teachings.

A former boss of mine would always tell the staff "draw your own conclusions." call it pre-traumatic stress disorder if you want to; but, it's kinda hard not to connect the dots here and come up with anything other than the guy was evil and doing what evil people do. and it doesn't surprise me that his peers could be concerned about him-yet the establishment does nothing about it. that is what political correctness brings to the table.

You may be correct Larry, but imo...

Given the nature of war and especially with the Iraq Invasion, I find it hard to believe that a Muslim Therapist would be a good choice for troops having issues fighting on that front unless the doctor had a proven temperament...I definitely don't think any therapist should be proselytizing a Religion, but can see where in a clinical setting explaining about similar tenets that Islam and Christianity share could be beneficial to deprogram a returning individual.

I just saw on NBC Nightly News that the Imam at his mosque has expressed the EXACT opposite of what you are "reporting."
