Question about "Doping Speaker Wire"

I recently had a major mix-up in speaker connections, using 4-conductor
wiring, where both positive connections went to one speaker and the
negatives to another. Someone indicated that I would "have to dope out
the wiring to get things back to normal."

What is meant by "doping" a speaker wire?

i think it was more like a dig on you ..indicating you're a dope for mixing them up like that. at least, that's something i would say if i were trying to insult someone with a sense of private gratification.
