Appleskinner
Does anyone have advice on how to clean the glass on a vintage Fisher 500C receiver? I recently acquired one in dire need of cleaning and have heard horror stories of removing the screenprinting from the glass. Any advice would be much appreciated. ~Gary
tube fanatic
I haven't worked on a 500C in too many years to recall if the numbers, etc, are baked on enamel or decals. If it's enamel you can just wipe it with a paper towel moistened with some Windex or similar. If decals, you need to lightly moisten a q-tip with some Windex and clean around them without getting the decals overly wet. It's painstaking work, and you will need a few dozen q-tips, but it can be done. I've used these methods to clean the dial glasses of a few hundred antique radios and it works out quite well. tube fanatic
This may interest you. Came across it during my daily Ebay scan for vintage equipment. Not a bad deal if you are not interested in sourcing your own replacement parts: http://cgi.ebay.com/Fisher-500C-Vacuum-Tube-Receiver-Restoration-Kit_W0QQitemZ170467616548QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVintage_Electronics_R2?hash=item27b0a96724
