...simply mean that you can run a second, independent feed to another television in your home? I know it's an easy question, I am just making sure I understand the technology correctly.

yes and no .. that model has two hdmi outs which means you can run video out to separate devices. the practical application here is a plasma for general use and your roll down screen + projector for serious movie watching.

the zone feature, however, is more like auxillary audio ( 2 channels i believe) and i think the practical application here would be routing a few speakers to your kitchen, adjoining room, etc so that you can move about the house and not miss out from the action in primary zone.

that's my understanding ..i'll defer to others who have actually used those functions to provide additional info.

Thad is correct, that should be a second zone for audio purposes.

YEP, second set of stereo speakers any place you want them playing the same thing as the "main" speakers.

Actually a Zone 2 setup will also let you listen to a different source as well, but most receivers will only let you listen to an analog source on Zone 2.

HUH, I didn't know that and I have 2 AVRs that have that feature but I have never hooked it up. Interesting.
