smokarz
this is what i like to make (or buy), only shorter (perhaps 2 shelves). what's needed would be shelves and leg tubes. i was told Lowes use to sell stuffs like this so you can assemble them, but they no longer carry the products. if you have any suggestions/ideas, please let me know. i need probably 3 racks (2 shelves) each to hold the gears under my projector. thanks
dollar bill
2 or more matching end tables from a yard sale, or even Ikea if need be. Legs cut to length desired. Or a DIY "flexy rack", which there are a few folks here that can help. Sleeves made out of whatever material(cut down vaccum cleaner pipes?) you want to cover the threaded rod with. smokarz
thanks dollar bill, just saw thaddeussmith's posts of the threaded rod & plywood over at youthman's thread. that looks like an interesting idea. though, i might use finished shelves or finished plywood, so it looked a bit nicer. elitedemo
just built 2 hanging shelves for my rear 81s...i dont think id tempt fate building a av rack i think ordering one from store or website can do it better for the money and in most cases make it look alot better and probably hold better
smokarz
the problem is most av rack is pretty tall. i needed something to go under my projector screen, and there's roughly 24-32" clearance between the floor and the bottom of the screen. dollar bill
I think the flexy with nicely finished shelves and some sleeves to fit over the threaded rod would look almost identical to your provided picture.
smokarz
dollar bill, not sure what this flexy thing looks like. do you have any pics or links? thanks
Moderators Youthman Posted April 17, 2010 Moderators Share Posted April 17, 2010 i might use finished shelves or finished plywood, so it looked a bit nicer. That was my thought too. I didn't think about putting tubing around the threaded rods. I'm going to paint mine flat black since a wood finish wouldn't match with my grey cabinets. Thaddeus Smith
that particular example sits behind a screen made of grille fabric, so i didn't worry about finishing the wood. throw some stain on it, paint the edges in flat black, and you'll have a very sharp looking solution. smokarz
when you say stain, what exactly? is it one of bottle paint spray? or the home paint?
BluBitRates
i think you can buy stain in like the home paint containers with the metal lids and they say stain on them. You would most likely use a brush to put on a coat or a few. Probably want something to emulate sawhorses to set it on while it drys. wuzzzer
I believe someone on here has a similar rack that they bought the components from Lowe's? I think its in the "Let's see YOUR home theater" thread.
