kg 4 tune up

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a pair of kg 4s. I have never heard a pair before, but I have heard that they should sound pretty good. They do seem to have a great clear sound but the bass seems to be missing. Even when I turn bass up and he treble down it seems weak and worse in one speaker than the other. To the untrained eye all of the speakers appear to be in decent shape. Is this a crossover issue? I think the speakers are from 1984.

It very well could be, or bad woofer(s) The Kg4's bass is into the 30's and quite potent. With the grills off: are both woofers on front moving like they should? The KG4 is a 2-way and the woofers work togeather to drive the passive radiator on back.

I have KG 4's and had an issue with one of the k-8-k's, which was inoperative. I would check each of the 4 of them first. I've seen plenty of complaints about this driver on the board, and would suspect them before the crossover. I see them pop up on ebay, and when I replaced mine, got a pair for $50. So, in my mind, the k-8-k is the weakest link on this model.

Good luck on your journey - hope it doesn't cost you much to get them up to 100%!
