Verizon Android or ATT Iphone?

I have Verizon and live in FL also.

Everyone I have talked to says they Want the IPhone, but do not like the dropped calls thru ATT. Prices are relatively the same (imho).

It burns me up that a company (Apple) can do an exclusive contract with just one company...............wish they would wake up !

I had ATT for a while and the drop calls and service was horrible where I was. The iPhone is sweet, we've got an iTouch for the wife (iPhone with no phone). What droid were you looking at? HTC or Moto? The new HTC looks to be a work horse with HTC great gui. Verizon is who we switched to from ATT, and the service and coverage are better in rural areas. If you look at maps and never leave the city and stay on major interstates the coverage is consistant, but if you travel or live outside town I'd stick with verizon.

Also you mention "smartphone" are you looking for a cool gadget or an actual smartphone with push-pull mail, microsoft office and what not?

If you need it for work or would like to use it for work you might not want the iPhone. I say this because companies that have plans typically are not purchasing iphones for everyone hence the iphone not being supported. Just some ideas.

If you just want a cool gadget, the iphone is sweet but IMO it's getting old.

I need to be able to get at different email accounts. work home etc. I have a EnV 1 original and when i try to use the net it is so much hassle, I end up waiting until I get where I can use my laptop. My verizon contgract is ending in about a week, that is why I was also looking at Iphone. The HTC looks great, but I don't know if I need all of it. I don't plan to put my whole music library on it, I will still use my ipod. The one feature I noticed is that the HTC will sync mp3's etc with my pc , and the Moto Droid you can't. (is that right)

I have had better service with Verizon(coverage wise) I never drop calls

Right now leaning toward Droid HTC (might as well get the latest)

The droid is surpassing the iphone in sales. I like Verizon much better than AT&T for coverage and service. The droid is an iphone killer IMO.

The Tv commercial sounds vaguely reminiscent of a cylon centurion voice...

I have a Motorola Droid and I love it. Much like the Mac/PC debate, it will probably come down to preference on the hardware. Both are essentially tiny palm sized computers that can make phone calls. Both can be programed to do pretty much whatever you want. The differences are mainly in the service. Apple has more apps, but a more locked down app store. Android is more open. You can even get porn apps on Android - something Apple forbids. Not as many apps available, but it has the potential to grow faster and overtake Apple before long.

Big advantage for the iPhone is it's iPod interface. Everyone makes docks, mounts, adapters, speakers, etc. for the iPod docks. Droid only has a headphone output.

The primary difference in your actual user experience will probably be more dependent on service than the hardware. For me, not being on ATT was a major reason to go with Verizon and the Droid. I would have had a hard time deciding between the two if they were both available on Verizon.

I knew I made the right decision when I decided I'd want a Droid even if it WASN'T a phone. I use the other stuff with the apps, email, GPS, etc. more than I use the phone. The physical keyboard is also a major plus in my book.

. Android is more open.

This is a HUGE point for me, not to mention choice of provider. I don't need to be a porn mavin to appreciate the fact that big brother isn't dictating content. I am my own consenting adult, and don't need some company limiting my options. IMO, it's no different that having the choice of R or adult pay per view. Don't want to see it? Don't buy it. But never, ever tell me, in this country that I can't have a choice if I want it.

Remember the 1984 macintosh commercial? Apple has decided to be like the big brother they railed against back then with the Iphone.

i've had quite the opposite experience in my part of SoCal--my ATT (iphone) coverage is far better than my previous verizon service. i rarely experience a dropped call--maybe six in over a year. with verizon there were so many times i couldn't get a signal period--don't have that problem after switching to ATT.

I was a loyal AT&T wireless customer for 9+ years. I really went back and forth. The deciding factor for me was the turn by turn navigation was an extra 10 bucks on the iphone and free on the Droid. I can't speak for the HTC or other Android phones, but the Droid is KILLER. I have had enough time with my friends iphones to know how they work. They are so close in function that the deciding factor should be cost...unless coverage in your paticular area is a deal breaker.

As an added bonus I was able to utilize PDA net to teather my phone to my multiple computers and have since dropped my $100 dollar a month satellite Internet plan (live in the middle of no where no cable/dsl). So I am actually saving money over all.[Y]

I did not have any sort of nav system in either of my cars and the Droid just rocks for GPS functionality. email and texting is a breeze. Camera is decent enough for snap shots. So many free apps that you are never bored. Battery life is better than any other mobile phone I have had. Very nice build quality. Suprprisingly good sound, for what it is. When you get one be sure and dowload "Fart Droid". You end up with a $400 whoopie cushion with electroinc delay and a free phone[H]

I loves me Droid!

I love my android phone. I have the Samsung moment for Sprint. To be clear the Iphone is the best selling cell phone ever. Still sells more than any other but it is losing ground while the androids are gaining. I would hold off for a month or two because the new Iphone is coming and so is the new android phones. The HTC Incredible will hit soon.
