Unity_coupled
I found a pair of La Scalas on Craigslist not too far from where I live. The guy is asking 1600 firm. Serial nos. 14S507 and 508 (1978) with AA crossover. I've never seen a La Scala with a full grill before. He was kind enough to email me these pics. I doubt I'll see any La Scalas this nice in my neck of the woods for a while. Should I get them?
dollar bill
Just at a glance, I'd say no(which is unusual for me!). Others may say otherwise, but for $1600, they are not beautiful enough.lol If the grills are the selling point then you can get some decent LaScala speakers for $1000 and I'm faily confident you can make some full DIY grills for less than $600. Are you in the Buffalo area?
Dennie
Well, that is a tough call. $1600 is not a bad price, but it is up there. Hum.......... Okay, Get them!!! [] Just remember, you will need to update at least the capacitors, which is not too expensive. I replaced the crossovers in my 1979 La Scala's for $300 including shipping. How are your soldering skills? If you can spare the cash and forget about the turntable for now, I say get them. You will never need another speaker. At least that's how I feel owning La Scalas. Oh and the "Grills" are homemade as La Scalas did not come with grills. Dennie

Unity_coupled
Would you ship them to Oregon? Just kidding.
runninshine
La Scalas are awesome but $1600 is pretty high imo.
Dennie
Would you ship them to Oregon? Just kidding. If you can get them shipped for $400, Mikes are a much better deal! [Y] Dennie
4tay
Those are nicer and cheaper than the beat-to-death la scalas I see out here in rural hi-fi hell. To me, they'd be a steal! A grillcloth or two is *significantly* less than $600...
gnatnoop
keep looking...grill cloth is interesting but would probably get old..
