RF-3II w/ RC-7?

Recommended Posts

Okay, I'm nearing the purchase of my RF-3IIs.

I will of course need a center to go with them, but I can't help but think the RC-3II looks wimpy. How in the heck can it go through the Super Speedway torture test?

I know the RC-3II is the proper match with the RF-3IIs, however I was wondering if I wouldn't get better results with an RC-7. That way I don't have to buy yet another center when I upgrade to RF-7s in the future...

Unless a pair of RB-3s placed horizontally would sound better?

So, what do you think?

Seb,

I've got the RF3II's and the RC3II. I got to tell you the darn thing sounds great. Just got done watching Rush hour 2. Had to replay a couple of the bomb scenes. Anyway, are you buying from a dealer? If you are ceertainly they would let you upgrade to an RF7 if you'rrrr not happy. If not from a local dealer, there is always e-bay and this forum. Reference pieces won't last long at auction.

I'm buying direct from the Klipsch rep because I work for Dumoulin. But, as I don't have the occasion to listen to a lot of movie soundtracks with the ensemble, I wanted to get a feel for whether it was worth it to go with an RC-7 right away.

I think I might jsut go for the RC-3II, even though it looks small and wimpy compared to the mighty RC-7, and down the road I'll put it in the back with the RF-3s, and buy the 7 series for the front. But I need something good to keep me company for the next year or so.

What about the twin RB-3 idea?

Seb,

The RF3II's will keep yoou good company. I also look to the day when RF7's are in the front and I will move the 3's to the rear. For the RB3, hav'nt listened to them although they do have a rear firing port if that makes a difference in your set up for centers. They should sound great.

I will have a lot of room, and no "entertainment center" to put the center in, so no the ports aren't an issue.

After analysing the costs, I think it really comes down to the RC-3II vs. the RC-7. And as much as I would love to have overkill at the center, my budget constraints will most likely force em to go with the 3, if I can get over the cheap, ugly finish...

I'm an owner of the RF-3's paired with and RC-3 center and Rb-5 rears. I love it, though am looking to move the RB-5's to another system and drop in the RS-3 surrounds in back.

This is a great setup, paired with a Marantz Sr-19EX receiver and MM-9000 amp. Crystal clear on 2 channel and all kinds of fun watching DVD's. The RC-3 seems the perfect mate for the RF-3's in my system. I reccommend it highly.

I listened to the RC3II at a klipsch dealer and I don't think there is anything whimpy about it. I listened to the RF3II and then had them turn off the towers and just the center and it was powerfull. No lack of muscle there. I would go with the RC3II and when you get the RC7 move it to the rear for your 6.1.

I'm nearing my purchase and having second thoughts!

please help meee!!!

my main concern is will the RC-7 be a bad match for the RF-3IIs? if so, then I think I'll go for the 7, the RC-3 just looks too wimpy. then again, the RF-3s look wimpy compared to the 7s as well... argh!

Seb - get the RC-7. It will match the RF-3's just fine, and the larger center is preferable, since 75% of your sound in 5.1 and above comes from the center.

I left some comments also in a related thread here today, titled "RF-5 with RC-3".

boa - unfortunately, I am not(yet) blessed with a bottomless wallet. my future is indeed ahead of me, but I think I would prefer being able to afford a higher downpayment on a house instead of living in a crappy appartment where I will not be able to enjoy my ht anyways... therefore, compromise is the name of the game for me at this point. once I can afford it, trust me, those 3 series will go in the back and the 7s will replace them in front. for now, however, no can do, unfortunately, unless I win the lotto, which is unlikely to happen since I don't play.

dndphistin - yes I agree completely with your comments. my goal with this thread was simply to find out whether the RC-7 would be a tonic match for the RF-3IIs. the ideal would of course to listen to them together, however for practical reasons I am trying to find someone who has done the same as me and could tell me about the sonic match between the speakers.
