Jeerium
Hi guys, I am new to the forums, but have been a long time Klipsch fan. Just 3 weeks ago I had purchased a pair of brand new RF-83s and have been wonderfully pleased since the purchase. However, upon more critical music listening I had noticed that my right tower was buzzing when certain frequencies and sounds were played. Particularly, mid bass and sections with somewhat muffled sound quality would produce the buzzing sound. These being brand new towers, not 3 weeks old, I did not hesitate to contact my dealer immediately and try for an exchange. Unfortunately, as I had suspected, they can no longer get any new RF-83s as the Reference V series is on the cusp of release and the reference IVs are no longer in production. When I had investigated the buzzing further I was able to determine that it is in fact the front baffle that is vibrating (at a rather high frequency). I concluded this after merely touching the baffle when the buzzing was occurring and the unwelcome sound ceased. I am starting to think perhaps one or some of the torx screws holding the baffle in place are simply not tightened enough. I would like to try tightening them myself which is no big deal, but I have no clue as to how the baffle is constructed and how thick it is. My concern is that if I over torque the screws I may crack the baffle. Has anyone had similar problems with their Reference speakers? I would very interested to know how safe I am in attempting this and/or additional concerns and tips that I should be taking into account. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much and happy listening!
laager
Given that they are three weeks old then your dealer should be doing whatever it takes, including replacing any faulty parts for you to solve the problem. I sincerely doubt there is an inability to obtain complete replacement units. Nevertheless, I'm willing to bet there is no shortage whatsoever of parts. You purchased new and got a new unit warranty. I would be enforcing it.
Ironsave
You purchased new and got a new unit warranty. I would be enforcing it. I totally agree with this. I suspect one of the drivers is not tightened properly. I would take it to the dealer and let them inspect it or have them send it to Klipsch to do so. Good Luck. BEC
Not suggesting you do this because of warranty issues, but here is what the other side of that plastic cover looks like. I had this off to install a new HF driver. Bob Crites
Jeerium
Thanks so much for the feedback guys. BEC, that picture you provided is just what I was looking for! I admit, I am rather upset that I bought brand new speakers and am now being told no replacement is available. My dealer is supposed to be contacting me this afternoon to let me know for certain if he can or cannot get a new unit. I am very hesitant to have repairs done to the speaker in such a brand new state. I have had some issues returning speakers in the past for warrantly service where there was considerable aesthetic damage to the units upon return (mind you, these were not Klipsch speakers). I loathe the idea of scratched and scruffed up speakers because the repair guy was careless. Never the less, you guys are right and I should be more insistant on warrantly service and making sure it is done correctly. Perhaps I will at least attempt tighting the baffle screws with very little effort just to see if there is some play there. I had notice one or two of the screws do seem ever so slightly further out than the rest. Thanks again gents, I will let you know how it goes
CECAA850
I admit, I am rather upset that I bought brand new speakers and am now being told no replacement is available. Tell them you'll put up with the noise till your free RF-7II replacements are available.

jamesV
here is what the other side of that plastic cover looks like.Wow , made in China for real . Don't know about that since it was stated before that the RF-83's are made in Hope. James
sunburnwilly
That baffle and horn are clearly not made in Hope .
