7.1 down to 6.1 ?

Hey Dtel, I run 6.1 and the rear center channel also combines info from the front center channel. Not just the surrounds.

6.1 was a step up from 5.1, for me. I highly recommend it.

Here is a link to DTS ES movies on DVD-----> CLICK HERE

The DTS ES Discrete movies are high lighted in RED.

Here is a good page with both Dolby EX and DTS ES info --------> CLICK HERE

I don't know anything about Blu-ray's, as I have not taken the plunge!

Hope that helps and DID it get delivered yet???? [:P]

Thank you, I need to go read some of that. [Y]

This Ht has been the same for a few years and i have not kept up, I had it set to the most the receiver did with my other DVD player. It was a Pioneer universal player, it was set to play DTS 6.1 and DVD-a and SACD's, but all DVD's went out either 5.1 or 6.1 and it was automatic.

Yes is was delivered, I had all the wires ran a waiting. I ran across one problem, I had ordered some new component cables from Monoprice, three double wire sets and a HDMI cable for the TV. On one of the component sets one of the wires does not work, my right rear had no signal. I checked it and it was connected OK, I switched it out for another I had here and it worked fine, I was a little surprised I got a bad cable, my first.

I forgot how much fun it is to go through a pile of menus and set everything. [:(] I got the wireless internet working but I need to now go to each app and connect them individually now. I want to try the internet radio and see how it sounds, plus Netflix.

I tried a couple of BD disc from Netflix, I let my wife pick the first ones, she picked " This is it " the Michael Jackson thing and Planet Earth. I just watched a few minutes of the Planet Earth and tried the MJ disc, I can hear a pretty good difference in the sound quality and the pic is also better, considering the Tv is 1080I I can still a difference over sattilite HD or regular DVD's.

One thing I forgot about was when you use the 6 channel input the receiver does not let you use any of the DSP's, which is fine because i was just going to run it on normal anyway and let the player set everything.

I looks like everything will work fine, it says it has a strong signal from the wireless so that's good.

It is taking a while to learn where everything is on the remote, and BD disc seem to work a little different anyway.

I took the plunge to blu ray last year. Its great. I also have netflix. I do alot of streaming for tv shows. I just upgraded to netflix blu rays back in march tho. I hated the small increase in price at first but its worth it. The blu ray sound will definitely sound better because the two popular sound standards are lossless. Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master.....(which just means they are bit for bit recreations of the master. You hear everything the sound mixers heard when making the movie. You don't lose details like you did with lossy formats such as dolby digital and dts) When I upgraded my receiver my sound improved but once I got some blu rays i was blown away. Some great blu ray movies to try out sound wise are as follows

1. Saving Private Ryan

2. Black Hawk Down

3. The Hurt Locker

4. Avatar

5. Master and Commander

6. 300

7. The Dark Knight

8. 2012

9. War of the Worlds

10. Clash of the Titans

11. Gladiator

12. Ninja Assasin

Just to name a few. They're not in any particular order. They're all great movies that put a Blu Ray system through some great tests. With both audio and video. Especially Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down.....both of those movies put you right in the middle of war. Sounds are amazing on Blu Ray.....War of the Worlds can really stress a sound system as well if its turned up....but be sure to crank up both of the war movies. This Is It is also a good test with the music on it and the subtle arena echoes etc, but you already rented that. But enjoy your setup and let me know when you watch those movies on the list. It has to be Blu Ray....not DVD, lol. And don't get the upgrade bug with Netflix. (when i switched to blu ray on Netflix I was so excited it didn't seem like 3 blu rays were enough so I switched to the 6 at a time plan)

Yes BD disc are a little different but its an improvement. I love the popup menu feature. It allows you to select chapters and change the sound etc without ever leaving the movie. It just pulls up a popup overlay at the bottom of the screen. Not to mention some movies have PIP for the special features so that you can watch the movie and the "making of" featurette for that particular scene at the same time. And since you have wireless BD Live is also great. It automatically downloads updates for the movies and allows you to get extra content for the movie and do other stuff like chat with other folks or create your own commentary for the movie etc. And wireless is great for the player too because firmware updates are so much easier to do when the player does it automatically. (compared to going online and downloading the firmware to a flash drive and then doing the update yourself) It may seem like alot to take in but you'll find your way around. The best way is to just explore the special features menu.....and your remote should have a "popup menu" button too so explore the special features during the movie, lol

We only get 2 at a time and that's plenty for how much we watch. [:$]

i connected the streaming Netflix and internet radio. I tried a movie for about 10 minutes, it was HD and looked and sounded much better than expected.

The internet radio also sounds much better than expected, I connected the player with a seperate stereo connection, it sounds better in 2 CH through that connection rather than the componet connection.

This will get used alot for music, much of the time I have music playing during the day.

Yes the streaming HD looks really good. I haven't found any 5.1 movies yet though. Netflix had said they would offer them soon but for right now my receiver still shows that it simulates the 5.1....with DTS Neo 6.....in my opinion that sounded better than the Dolby Pro Logic. What movie did you watch? I may have to check it out. Nonetheless the quality of the HD movies and sound is pretty amazing. And Netflix is always trying to improve so once you start watching a lot of streaming movies they will probably email you some surveys that want you to rate the picture of certain things you streamed.....And I totally understand the 2 at a time.....I'm a movie buff. Had a huge collection of DVDs...but now they're neglected as I try to rebuild my collection with Blu Rays.....my significant other is the same way. She may want to watch 4 movies a month if that. Everyone around me is like that. Even my parents. When I still lived at home they had a pioneer surround system.....it was never turned on unless I turned it on....because I was the only one watching movies....I wish they would have had the Klipsch system while I was there, lol. The exception would be my friends who have Klipsch setups.....and even those guys don't watch as many movies as I do. They prefer to game. What can I say? I love going to other worlds even if it is for a couple of hours. I guess thats why I love books so much. Was going to get a Kindle but that got sidetracked as well for the speakers....but alas I'm going off topic. I think I'm about to pop in King Arthur before I hit the sack. Just finished watching Avatar again. After talking about it I had to watch it and turn it up. lol.

Ok I went back and checked, your right I can't tell if it's 5.1.

This receiver when set to 6 channel input turns everything off and it just says "6 channel input" and nothing else. Normally it has little lights that light up and says how many channels are being input, 2 ,5.1,6.1 but with the 6 channel input button pressed no lights are light.

It must have set it to DPL ll or something else and it sounded like 5.1 ? It didn't sound bad at all, not like a disc but not bad. I would get the disc if it's something I really want to watch anyway.

Its possible that could have happened. No it doesn't sound bad at all. The processors in our receivers do a great job of "creating" surround from the Netflix stream without making it sound like it was "created" I mean if I hadn't set the mode myself I would be convinced that they're streaming 5.1 dolby or something similar. I watch a lot of TV shows streaming and the surround sound is pretty impressive on 24 and Lost(with the forest sound effects. bugs, rain etc) and Nip Tuck etc. So I can't wait until Netflix offers the true surround sound streams. I'm surprised they hadn't already already started offering those streams because other streaming services (Amazon, Vudu etc) offer full Dolby Digital. I'll have to look it up and see if I can find a date. I remember reading about their plans to offer Dobly Digital streaming back in the spring.....so it should hopefully be getting ready to launch soon. When I read your post I was a little excited and thought they had finally started offering it. But I'll let you know if I find a launch date

My receiver has outputs for 7.1, meaning I have a single for the main center, outputs for each front main, outputs for both side surrounds and 2 outputs for the rears. To run 6.1 (which I do with a single lone rear KLF-C7) I simply put both inputs into the same speaker. All rear data comes through. Maybe not "purist", but it works for me. I get all the detail from the side channels with the filler from the rear.

I run my system (music/movies/TV) on 7 channel stereo.

For movies that may not be the best setting ? With 7 ch stereo you may not be getting the separate signal for each speaker ?

I am not sure but if you don't want any DSP's there should be another setting which should still give you separate channels for movies but just an unchanged signal from the player.

Why do you use that setting? On most receivers 7 channel stereo will downmix a surround signal into 2 channels and then re-mix it so that all the left speakers play the same thing and all the right speakers play the same thing. To get discrete surround sound effects you have to use Dolby Digital, DTS, etc.

That's what I was trying to say, thank you.

I love you line........" I want to die in my sleep like my grandfather did. Not yelling and screaming like the passengers in his car. "

Thanks. [:)] I believe it was from Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy. Someone on another forum had that in their signature and I had to have it.

I have defaulted to that setting primarily due to the "fullness" I sense from my viewing position. In movies like Dark Knight, Ronin, King Arthur, Waterworld, Desperado, Avatar, Casino Royale, Last of the Mohicans, etc the room fills completely with the sound. I get transition accross the room. In Sci-Fi mode, sometimes the center channel can come across as a bit weak (and that is with a KLF C7 center). I seem to prefer some volume from all speakers rather than the individual sounds from select speakers when that sound is delivered to it.

Likely not very purist though.

Kind of defeats the purpose of all recent surround sound formats. As long as you like it though! [:)]
