maseline_98
I'm trying to help one of my friends track down a decent sub to be integrated into his system. Here is what I know: His room is about 12' x 14' . I know he listens to a lot of music(mostly classic rock at insane levels), but is also looking for HT applications. His budget is $500. My suggestions were for him to look for a used sub because $500 doesn't buy a whole lot(outside a DIY project, which he didn't seem interested in). He didn't mind the idea of used, but would prefer new. I told him to look into epik, eD, svs, emotiva, but most of them are out of the range. Ideas? Models? Thanks guys
Rayman
I have the new for this year klipsch #SW-112 SUB retail price $599.99 teamed with references series 82ii / 62ii / 52ii / 61ii home theater 7.1 system, it has NO problem keeping up with anything i throw at it!!! excellent on movies and very good on music, not boomy IF careful with crossover freq. ( i cross over at 60hz ) run 82ii on large size. The $600.00 perfect sub is not out there, but give it a listen, i think klipsch did a great job at this price point.... maseline_98
I've narrowed the search a litte. I know some of these will eclipse the $500 mark, but they are all pretty close: Rythmik FV12 Elemental Designs A5s - 300 Emotiva Ultra 12 Epik Legend SVS SB12-NSD HSU VTF-2 MK 3 Outlaw LFM-1 Plus

maseline_98
Here is the recommended list and reasons:1. Epik Legend(499)*2. Emo Ultra 12(429)3. HSU VTF-2 mk3(549)4. Outlaw LFM-1 Plus(549)5. SVS SB12-NSD(599)6. Rythmik RV12(529)7. Elemental Designs A5s-300(550)*Iput epik and emo would be at the top of the list because they are bothsealed and he does listen to quite a lot of music. the epik would beable to push more air(in theory) because it has dual 12s versus emo'ssingle. As I've stated, I've never actually listened to any ofthese subs, but I'm sure he will be happy with any of them(as othershave stated). Thanks for all the responses and feel free toweigh in more on the topic. He probably won't be purchasing for a leasta few weeks...
nezff
Remember a sealed sub will sound different than a ported.
Ironsave
Remember a sealed sub will sound different than a ported. Absolutely correct. I have the Emotiva Ultra 12 and it is AWESOME with my Heresies. I would say the Epik is really good also....... (I love the sealed sound with music). Emotiva has a 5 year warranty...... Plus; 30 days to return for a full refund.... How's that for buying with confidence? For me; it was a no brainer....... PS... My room size is similar. I am probably 12 X 20 ish..... I got to audition a HSU versus mine; the results were close in a big room. Both sounded great. I think in a smaller space; you will feel the kick much like I do at home with the Emo...... Good Luck.
