which do you think would work best for Cornwalls and or heresy III?

Sansui AU-7700 Stereo amplifier

OR

Onkyo Grand Integra M-508

I know many will say, " neither go with tubes" But i dare say neither can be discounted lightly. That Sansui is one of the best ever in its class, and the Onkyo is very clean sounding very very little distortion and gobs of power. I have neither at this time but can get. What do you think. I will probably buy the Sansui even if not compatible with the Klipsch, and build a system around it, What do you all think

Thank you for your responses

I think only you can make this decision. It is your room, your (other) gear and your ears. We can tell you which one sounds best in a completely different situation, but that really dosen't help much. Can you bring them home and give them a test drive? If they both have the features you need, then only your ears can decide.

One thing to remember is Klipsch Heritage speakers don't need a lot of power, so that really shouldn't be a factor. Features and how it sounds to you are the most important things to consider.

I will second that. Yesterday I was listening in the shop, and went over to one of the La Scalas with my voltimeter and it was bouncing between .6 and 1.3 volts. I thought that was a perfect listening level.

I have 6 La Scalas driving a 60,000 cubic foot room (3,000 sq ft 20' ceilings), and I need about 1 volt per speaker. How many watts is that? Don't know right off hand, but I'd bet its less than 20 watts per channel.

Lastly, I am going to be purchasing an Anthem PVA 7 when I go pre/pro with this system. At 105 WPC 8 ohm, it will be more than enough. You might want to look at the anthems: http://www.anthemav.com

If you consider a vintage Sansui, try to find an AU-999 (sound is "tube like"), or a 717/719. These can be had for a reasonable price and there are several Sansui specialists that can restore the "inner workings" back to factory specs. Probably the best of the vintage Sansui's (arguably of course) is the AU-9900 or 11000. They will tend to be pricey, but they are extremely stable and have that "tube" like quality.

I have a Sansui 717. It sounds wonderful with my KLF30s and would probably sound great with my Cornwall 3s It has to be carefully reatored, however, because Sansui used a glue that turned out to be corrosive. It must be removed and anything it came into contact with must be replaced. The Sansui section of Audiokarma.com has a tutorial for those who want to do it themselves. This integrated amp sounds so good, it's worth the trouble and expense for restoration. It would cost much more to find something new that even came close to its rich sound.
