Icanthearu
I'm currently running a McIintosh C26 preamp with my Chorus2's and want to move to something newer, maybe with a remote but not a must. I would like to stay with a used 80's-90's piece. Any suggestions...
Wardsweb
If you like the McIntosh sound, a C38 keeps you in the family and adds remote control.
Icanthearu
What will sound as good or better than my C26? and not McIntosh. My room is good size 18x30
runninshine
I love my C26. I hope you find what you're looking for. Do you want SS or Tube?
Icanthearu
Don't get me wrong, I think its a fine preamp. I'm looking for a 80's-90's vintage SS non Mac pre, that's quieter than the C26 and a nice big sound stage. I was thinking of sending to DeWick... but I put $200+ in it 2 yrs ago with new caps and new volume control, and now the volume control is finicky again. joshnich
The pre ampsfrom Mac that I have experience with are the C22 and the MX110 ( I think I remembered the numbers correctly). These I assume are older designs than what you are referencing. So what I have to say is in regards to these vintage units. Have to tell you that a modern preamp will out shine these venerable units in a big way. I have used the mac preamps with mac tube gear and when switching to modern tube pre amplification it was like a veil was liftedand the music came alive. Less stuff in the way. Go Cary or juicy music if it were me., Josh
