Tremors
Im considering purchasing the Oppo BDP-93 and am very curious as to the experiences of others who already own this. Is it worth the hype? Clearly it seems as if this player is held in pretty high regard. I'd love your feedback, thanks. Ps: I use my system for 50/50, HT/Music, and I love the idea of using the PS1 for its CD playing qualities and an high quality BD player for the video quality. But I'd really like an all in one. mustang guy
It is a great player overall. I bought this one as I had excellent DA conversion in my Integra DTA-80.1 preamp, so I did not need the more pricey BDP-95. From a functional perspective, the load time is the thing that impressed me the most with the Oppo BDP-93. It isn't quite as fast as a CD player, but it isn't too far off. I use my player for about 60% music, and 40% movies. It does both extremely well. I have 2 other blue ray players in operation, and this one wins hands down. The chassis is solid and I like that there are actually tactile buttons for power and eject, unlike my visio that doesn't work half the time. Also, there is nothing more annoying than hitting eject twice and then the tray opening, only to close when you get the dics part way in. That's hard on discs. When you hit the eject on the BDP, it opens. When you hit the power on the BDP it comes on, or goes off immediately. Lastly, I will say that the packaging the Oppo unit came in was impressive. In fact, it may be the best packaging I have ever seen on anything I have ever bought. Kudos to their packaging department!
Audible Nectar
Just got one on my doorstep yesterday, and had it doing a few tricks last night. This player's "claim to fame" is it's ability to do DVD upconversion well, and that's no exaggeration: It is EXCELLENT in this regard. Haven't played with the Qdeo yet - just running straight playback on 480 DVDs and it looks really good. I am still fiddling with the audio setup on this machine, as currently DVD gives better 5.1 sound than BluRay 5.1 does. I have an older processor, where I am using the optical out on the Oppo to run bitstream to my pre/pro. That's my only issue with this so far, but I am only five or so hours in use and still playing a bit with the controls (which are very extensive), so I may well be missing something. Pretty serious piece of gear for $500.....solid build (almost 11 lbs) and did I already say how good 480 DVDs look??[H]
jhoak
I love my BDP-93. I've had it about a month now. I don't do any multi-channel with it though as I only have a 2.1 system. In my case I have the front analog outs going to my preamp for SACD playback and the digital coaxial going to my Emotiva XDA-1 DAC for standard CD playback. I've compared and going through the DAC is a little better to me. Not by very much though. While I've never had to take advantage of it I've read a LOT of people say that Oppo's customer service is second to none. Now if someone will please tell me how to properly pronounce Oppo... Fish
OPPO- long o's, so I heard. It's a decent player, nothing great to my ears, I hate the front bottons or whatever you call em'.I found it slow and clunky, it has a big adapter plugged in the back for wifi, like 1999.For $250 it would be great, for $500 I can get more.A Sony ps3 and all that it includes, 160 gb hd etc.., a dedicated OPPO sacd/dvda player and still a few hundred left. I found it's video the only thing I really liked, and by a slim margin for me.It is built well and OPPO is a good company.

Do you really think though that the PS3's optics, etc. are up to par with this Oppo? I own a PS3 and have been pleased with its Blu-Ray playing capabilities over the years. I do not own a decent CD player and dont feel that the PS3 is even close to being up to the job of producing "great" sound quality. Which is why I am now looking at the Oppo, both for its Blu-Ray abilities as well as its CD playing qualities. I dont NEED an all in one and in fact feel that going separates would probably be the better way to go anyhow. But if I'm going to spend the coin for a "great" CD player like an Oppo, why not spend a little more and get this BDP-93. Thoughts?
