Cal Blacksmith
I went through this last summer. We wound up with a 60" Sharp Aquos, fantastic picture, we are very happy with it. I am going to wait for the fad of 3D to either go out of fassion or to move to glasses-less tech. We (I) play a lot of games and the new ones in 3D are supposed to be great but I am going, again, to pass. I seem to consistantly back the "wrong horse" when I jump on the tech train at the start. Beta, Laser discs, HDDVD they were all my pics as the better format, thankfully, my hold off until it all shakes out, kept me from loosing a fortune on outdated tech.[]

I tend to be slow to move to the tech just for that reason. I was very impressed with the Samsung 3D tech, but the sheer size and quality of the 2D picture, the bare bone basics, were what ultimately sold me. The glasses-less tech may be arond the corner but I won't lose any sleep over it. But, just to underline your point, I have a 43" 720P Plasma that I bought in 2006 (roughly) where I dropped north of $2500 to purchase! Just a few years later I was purchasing a 50" 1080P for $1400 and was very pleased with that purchase! I kinda hated to replace that set because it is so good ( Samsung 850 series from two years ago) but I just didn't feel like I could pass up that deal for the 8000 Series Samsung. History has proven me wrong before though...
