ycchan
I purchased a pair of Klipsch Legend KL-20 speakers in 1999 and I always wondered the exact production date. At the back, there is a 9 digit (all numbers) serial number. Mine starts with 05XXXXXXX. Thoughts? Thanks
Mighty Favog
If I remember correctly it's: KLF20 = model MH = Mahongany finish 05 = year made (although in your case this doesn't make sense) Next 2 digits = week of the year they were made Remaining numbers = number of units made that week (or year)
ycchan
Thanks. I guess mine are different? I figured production began in 1996 to 2001 so 2005 doesn't make sense as you said. They were purchased outside the US btw.
Groomlakearea51
It is possible that the "05" refers to the production "run" since inception. Thus 05 would be run #5, and the rest of the serial codes follows MF's analysis. The problem with the "codes" is that they differed between the series, types and how Klipsch administratvely controlled the numbers. We have extensive data on the Heritage, but not the "others". Speakers made for export,or for the miitary PX/BX or Audio Club systems had variances that are still not "decipherable".
Fish
I'm thankful this was posted as I looked years back and found nothing. The formula the Mighty F put up does seem to fit with my klf30BS0011xxxx
