mcp
Which do you feel is the better balanced speaker? Over the years, I have owned many speakers. KG4's were my first serious speakers, but I've also owned Heresy, Forte and Cornwalls (too big for my room). My room is 17 x 13x 7.5 and I listen to jazz, classical and rock. I currently employ a Rogue Cronus Magnum, but also like low powered receivers like the H/K 430, Marantz 26 etc. At this point, I've moved enough huge speakers that I don't want to deal again with Cornwalls or LaScalas. I know the Chorus is a beast but it's not as wide as the Cornwall and, from what I've read, not as bass heavy. I'd like to hear from members with experience with both the Chorus and Fortes...thanks. willland
If I had the choice right now, it would be Forte over Chorus, Chorus II over Forte II by a tiny margin if size was not an issue. Bill

Bill Agreed. Big fan of the Chorus II, as it has the open natured midrange of the Cornwall with the balance of the Forte.
Adoremusic
Chorus' need a decent sized room to properly breath so I will go with Fortes on this one. If your room was larger I would say it depends on what you want in a speaker. If mids and highs are your thing then the Chorus is superior but if it's bass extension that you could not live without then I would recommend the Forte (although one could always add a sub to the Chorus). Chorus I's often get a bad rap for lacking in the bass extension region but if placed in the corners of the room the bass is augmented much better and the mids and highs are considerably better than the Forte. The Cornwall and Chorus I share the same midrange exponential horn.
John Chi-town
The forte II, with upgraded crossovers, and titanium mids and tweets is extremely hard to beat and INMHO has the best imageing of either the forte, Chorus, or Chorus II.
tblake10
Had both and I find the Chorus 2 to be superior. The question I have is is your room big enough for the Chorus 2's? The Forte 2 is a wonderful speaker, you cannot go wrong with either.
Ski Bum
Hmmm, shall I have the filet or the lobster? I'll echo Bill and the others and say room size is a big factor in which will work best for you. I have fortes in a ~13x17x8 room and they do wonders in there. They have a harder time in the larger rooms in my home I've tried them in. Vital
I prefer the Chorus ll over the Forte and Forte ll.
colterphoto1
forte ii (always small 'f' btw, think musical notation)
John Chi-town
Yes forte, or forte II is always with a lower case "f". Everything in audio is subjective at best. But when you look at the original spec sheets on both, both versions of the forte dig lower for bass. In addition I feel that the forte's image a little beter than either Chorus version. Just my humble opinion. My set up is in a 25 X 25 room, and will shake the entire foundation if asked to. The point is that in my opinion the forte's will easily fill any room with sound, short of a PA System at your local high school. forte II Spec's: SPECIFICATIONS BUILT FROM: 1989 BUILT UNTIL: 1996 CROSSOVER FREQUENCY: HF 7,000 Hz<br>LF 650 Hz DIMENSIONS: 35.4" (89.92cm) x 16.5" (41.9cm) x 12.25" (31.1cm) ENCLOSURE MATERIAL: Medium density fiberboard construction (MDF) ENCLOSURE TYPE: Bass reflex via passive radiator FINISHES: Walnut Oil, Oak Oil, Oak Clear, Finished Black FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 32Hz-20kHz(+-)3dB HIGH FREQUENCY HORN: 90(o)x40(o) Exponential Horn MAX ACOUSTIC OUTPUT: 119dB SPL MID FREQUENCY HORN: 90(o)x40(o) Tractrix® Horn MIDRANGE: K-61-K 1.5" (3.81cm) Phenolic diaphragm compression driver NOMINAL IMPEDANCE: 8 ohms POWER HANDLING: 100 watts maximum continuous (500 watts peak) SENSITIVITY: 99dB @ 1watt/1meter TWEETER: K-75-K 1" (2.54cm) Polymer diaphragm compression driver WEIGHT: 67 lbs. stormin
Chorus II by a landslide in all categories IMHO. They have been bringing good money lately. 1225 and 1100 for the last two pairs on Flea-bay.
cheric
I just went on FleaBay for a quick reference and was surprised at the Chorus II prices. They command high prices lately. One pair was sold for $1400, they were mint according to the seller. Isn't that Lascala 's price range?
