Input on first HT setup and layout.

Greetings,

This will be my first HT purchase. The room is 14x18 with 9ft ceiling with the opening to downstairs on one side. Viewing distance from sofa to TV is about 13ft. My head is spinning with all the information out there. On to the questions...

1) House prewired for in ceiling 5.1. During my research, general consensus was front in ceiling speakers were not recommended so I have decided to go with floorstanding in front, and in ceiling for rear surround, as to avoid running wires and at least take advantage of the rear prewire. Would this be an ok layout?

2) Considering getting Denon AVR-2112ci with RF-62ii's and RC-62ii. Is this enough power to run these speakers, or would the RF-52ii's and RC-52ii be a better fit. Had read RC-62ii's much better center channel than RC-52ii's.

3) Had read somewhere the RF-62ii's provide ample bass. Is a subwoofer necessary? If so, how many watts for a 14x18 room, without causing too much vibration, as the room is on the 3rd floor. Was intending to get the front speakers first, and add rear surrounds later and subwoofer if necessary.

Thanks in advance!

If you want an "actual" HT then you will need a sub. Anything less is just a step up from a sound bar IMO. Your room is similar to mine in size however mine is sealed. I use 2 elemental designs A5-350 subs. ported 15 inch subs with 500 watts RMS. You won't need that much but it's a refrence point for where im coming from. I have heard many good things about SVS and epik subs. SVS sells a killer 13 inch sub and epik has a dual 15 inch that everyone reccomends. Check out those websites. Also the in ceiling rear surround will be fine.

The rf 62's and rc 62 are much better choices in a room that size. Your avr should power them fine. If you have the money for an AVR with preouts (for an external amp) then I would go that route. That way if you decide the AVR power is not enough you can easily add an amp to it. Otherwise you would have to sell your current avr and buy new (wasting money as my wife would say lol) it can be alot to take in so do it slowly... and welcome[pi]

I think the rf-62 center provides a much better sound than the 52. i had the 52 with my rf-82's a few months ago and it just could not keep up. i think the 62's all the way across will sound much more seamless as well. and everyone is right you will need a sub. if you are looking for something that crazy low, you are gonna need something a little larger for that low extension. if you are wanting something smaller and packs a really good punch, i have a new rsw-10d in the box that i am trying to get rid of. if you are interested send me a message on here and i can give you any info you wanted to know about it.

let us know what you end up doing!!

and welcome to the forum, it will turn into an addiction if you aren't careful.[H]
