TurboGen
I currently have (4) bookshelf speakers for the surrounds, however I was wondering if I should replace them with surround speakers instead? Would this provide better listening experience? All my surrounds would be mounted on the walls.
Beechnut
Many people use bookshelves as surrounds so by switching, I'm not sure what you mean. A bookshelf is more directional than the RS-62 series and smaller of that series. These angle the sound to fill a room more than give a direct surround experience. IOW, harder to detect what speaker the sound came from, just that it came from over there.
mustang guy
If you listen to music, the bookshelf speakers would probably be better. For movies, the surrounds would be.
ivanhurd
I've read that people prefer surrounds on the side and bookshelfs for the rear. I would say if you like how they sound now, there is no need to replace them.
TurboGen
I do like how everything sounds. I just wondered if changing a pair to surrounds would create a better listening experience. I do like the idea of doing side surrounds and bookshelves for the rear.
ivanhurd
So far I like my surrounds. I also have heard that some people like the bipoles in the rear and directional on the side. I suppose I should have tried it before mounting everything to the wall just to see if I liked it better, but oh well. Maybe next house I'll give it a try. Something you can do is ask about the return policy on any speakers you buy and then try them out to see if you like it better.
