A couple of the the things I like about the XBOX is: 1) Graphics are very nice, 2) Can be used as a normal DVD player which makes a nice spare 3) It can do 5.1 if you get the right cabling. 4) Has one of the best games I have ever played.... Halo It's the first console game I have ever owned so like I said, I can't compare it against anything. QUiKSR20 Posted June 4, 2002 Share Posted June 4, 2002 I just bought an X-Box about 3 months ago. I like the graphics over PS2's with Gamecubes coming in a close 2nd place. Gamecube is a good setup. But it doesnt play DVD's not like that was a selling point for the X-Box for me I have a dvd player for that. I just wanted to go with a procuct I knew had a lot to offer and alot of options. With X-box you get a good dvd player. Every game is in 5.1 and it can do 16:9 1080i graphics it has the highest specs so far. Built in hard drive for saving, ethernet card plus its microsoft so its most likely gonna do good. Not that Nintendo doesnt know the field. Another thing that kept me away from Nintendo is they like to censor there games or make a less violent version or so where PS, X, and all the other systems usually will deliver you a raw game without thinking twice.. I think for the younger generation game cube is a good choice exp with the new Mario games coming out that I have enjoyed my whole life. X-Box I feel is geared towards a more mature older audience. The Xbox is Microsoft's first gaming console while the GameCube is one of Nintendo's numerous gaming consoles. Secondly, the GameCube is not censoring games for the GameCube, heck look at Resident Evil on the GameCube, it is one of the most scariest and atmospheric games out there on any gaming console. Thirdly, not all Xbox games are 5.1. Currently the only games that do 5.1 are "Halo" and "Dead or Alive 3". Fourthly, there are many mature game titles coming to the GameCube. The GameCube is just an "all-rounder." It has games for everyone. ------------------ Coming soon... But, in technology, experience and history can mean very little. Just think about this, Philips very first sound card was a HUGE hit, beating out the Creative LAbs cards in quality and performance, three generations of Creative cards! Sony's first gaming console was a huge hit, competing with Nintendo's N64, and beating it in many aspects, except for load times. iRiver put out its first MP3/CD player, the best yet. Klipsch put out a computer gaming speaker system, took nearly 4 years for the competition to beat it out haha. Think about handhelds. Was only Palm, then Visor came out, and the Compaq iPaq killed them all with its raw power, and still leads the pack along with its sister, the HP Journada. Keyspan put out its first IR USB remote and it beat out the years top three in size, ease of use, price, and performace. May not be perfect examples, but it is summer now and I don't feel like research and scanning my memory Well, the Sega Game Gear was Sega's first handheld gaming system... MURDERED the GameBoy. Color screen, TV, battery life, games, and all the add-ons. I am getting an XBOX. If you have a HDTV and a 5.1 sound system, how could you choose otherwise? Especially when you have a 3mbps internet connection already laid out for the XBOX Thta should be cool. No need to buy the extra memory card unless you want to transport your saved games/characters to another machine - Built in networking. No need to buy the extra add-on peripheral for online gaming - 5.1 support. Hardware based 5.1 support to enable developers to bring you the most immersive gaming experience available to the home - 16:9 HDTV support. - Ability to use your own music in supported games. I enjoy Project Gotham Racing much more when I can listen to my own tunes while racking up the Kudos. - Controller. I have large hands, and the XBox controller is perfect. For those with smaller hands, I have the S-Controller. - Graphics Capabilities. Consoles are for gaming, not to count how many polygons are being displayed on the TV. Most people decide which console is better according to which games is has. It seems Nintendo concentrates on better games while Microsoft on audio and video capabilities. Mind you, I will be getting a Microsoft Xbox myself soon too. Why? MUCH better games will be coming out Q4 2002 (X-mas) and 2003. How can you say it is for little kids when you have games like Resident Evil and Eternal Darkness on it? These are just two examples, by the way. The way I see it is that the Nintendo GameCube is for everyone, from little kids to "adults." gooch Posted June 5, 2002 Share Posted June 5, 2002 Well, the officially supported Xbox online gaming environment is not available yet, but you can still play against other people on the internet using 'Gamespy'. They have an Xbox addon to their software that will allow you to play Halo, and other MP games against other XBox owners. So, you need to have your PC on the same network as your XBox (using your router) Startup Gamespy, find a game and your off to the races! I haven't tried this myself, but I have browsed the XBox room on Gamespy and have seen quite a few matches taking place. -- gooch Oh, as for the Controller S question, I haven't used my controller S yet, but I like the feel of it. As for 5.1 every game I have played so far has been in 5.1 and has lit up my recievers multi channel decoding light. Not one in PS2 has yet to do this. I read in hmm what magazine was it. I think home theatre mag or one of the home theatre mags that x-box is like a human brain only using 2% of its power so far. And once it gets some good programmers its really gonnna shine over the rest. How tru this is who knows but Im happy with my X-Box.
