KM Series

Can somebody explain why the KM series ever existed? I see they were primarily for the military, but I'm not quite sure why and what it was that set them apart from the rest.

I ask because I came across a mint KM-C and want to sell it in hopes I may come across a KV-4 someday. But I have absolutely no idea what it might be worth and what special applications it may have been made for.

Thanks!

Right, I see that - I'm just wondering what originally prompted Klipsch to come out with this series at all. Because it was military only, does this suggest they weren't available to the general public? Were they more expensive than their counterparts? Less expensive? What domestic line are they equivalent to?

I'm just trying to fig out if this mint KM-C I have I'd a rare bird or is it just another avg center channel.

Thanks!

they were cheaper and were only available on Military Bases, PX etcetera so the general public couldn't buy them...costs were kept down because you didn't have all the differing wood choices but only black vinyl clad MDF...domestic lines were usually the KG series but I am sure others may have been available...

Think it has any value as a home studio reference sub? I run a pair of powered KRK Rokit5's on top so I'm not going for huge volume. Also, the sub has inputs "from amplifier" but is powered. Any idea how I could run it from a PreSonus Firestudio interface without an amp? Thanks!

gt4play,

thanks for your post. never had the KM series up on my radar screen.

Looks like the sub might have been the weakest link in the series.

The largest of this line looks like it might have a tractrix horn.

would love to hear these guys.

I have 2 pairs of km6( same as the kg 5.5) and a modded pair of kg 5.5 in a 9.1 setup. Have all 6 on the front row. I like that they are front ported so they fit in my room a little bit better Since they can be put closer to the wall. As far as the sub, never had any want or need to find one. I do have a km-c sitting in the closet. It came with a pair of the kms. As for value no clue, I picked up the LCR set in excellent condition in origional boxes for 400 but I had to drive an hour away to get them.

I'm needing some replacement parts for my KM6. More specifically the little plastic covers that go over the carpet spikes! If anyone out there knows where I can get them PLEASE let me know! I purchased my pair at R.A.F. Lakenheath back in 1996 and have moved them all over and one finally broke.

Hi, gt4play,

As McMiRA pointed out, with the KM6 components being the same as the KG 5.5, I would think that it has great sound!  And many people are not looking to blast a WalMart parking lot with sound, ha ha.

Re your mention of the KV-4 center, I do have one, and I think it sounds splendid!  But you already know that.

I broke a couple of my spike covers by setting the cabinet down a little to hard. It was around the same time I discovered my bad back. I'm currently using the spikes so it isn't an issue but when it's time to put the covers back I figured I wouldn't be able to find any so I thought of buying one of the mold your own parts kits from the Eastwood company.
