warrenec
Can someone tell me what gauge speaker cable is correct for home stereo? I have a Marantz 2252b and some 10 year old Advents. Just wondering, thanks!

Cal Blacksmith
Timely chart, I just had to replace my wire in the HT to get it under the carpet, I had to go to ultra thin, 18 ga, my longest run is about 20feet to a side speaker (H2). I used to have 12 ga and was bummin about it, it looks on the chart like I will be OK with the longest run, not ideal but OK for a back side spreaker. thebes
As a general rule 16 or 14 gauge are fine except for longer runs. Doesn't affect the sound using higher gauges like 22, but they are more prone ot oxidation, and break much easier. No money for wire? Strip the cord off a broken lamp and use that. Sitting in the dark listeening... I use zip cord... works for me and I am enjoying the music. I think I am using 14 gauge...My lights are still on but I usually dim the lights some.. and drift off to sleep listening. Bruce
Exponential
I like the RadioShack 16 gauge stuff. Comes in 50 foot rolls. It strips and tins very easily, looks good with clear insulation too.
Wuchak
I like the white lightening cables http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/whitelightning/moonshine.html. I just twist the black and white together for ground and use the green for positive. I don't get fancy with shring tubing and banana plugs. The original manual on the back of the Advents recommended using lamp cord.

Guest " "
my longest run is about 20feet to a side speaker ok, just remember....depending on which chart you look at...20ft could be a 20ft + and - pair or 20 feet on other charts is actually 40ft 20ft for the + and 20ft for the - gives us 40ft. the below chart is for a + and - pair so you do not have to 20+20 to 40 it. Any suggestions for 100ft run from reciever to speaker. One would be much shorter, probably less then 50". Have 2 1" plastic conduit from house to patio. Love the big heritage speakers. Sooner or later the right set will show up and I'll bite............................Taz [] Maybe another set of Khorns for the outside. Boxx
Sometime someone should start a thread titled... "What is the wrong speaker cable to use?" We could work this subject from the other end of the angle.... lol...
Taz
Sometime someone should start a thread titled... "What is the wrong speaker cable to use?" We could work this subject from the other end of the angle.... lol... I've bought speaker wire by the roll, I think 1 time I bought a 30 or 40' section. Never used it........[].............. Can't have too much of that stuff. Not all of it remains at home, but if I'm 100 miles from home, back in the old home town, I have a roll stashed there to use for family or friends.............So my question remains, How big of wire for 75 to 100' run? Should I just hook up 2-3 #12 or #10 wire and call it good?......[^o)]........Taz
