The last Blu-ray you watched.

Just finished a movie I was watching last night.  It is called Ghost Stories.  It is a set of three stories that are connected together at the end.  It is a british film and I will be honest some of the stories had some scary parts in them.  I was watching it last night in bed with my headphones in after the significant other had hit the hay. Totally dark.  I did like it but would probably not watch it again and I will discuss that below. There are spoilers below so you have been warned.

SPOILERS...

My biggest problem is with the stories themselves.  There are really 4 stories not three as the fourth story is how everything ties together.  The other three stories are kind of short though and just when they get interesting they are over.  I guess you could watch the movie again to see all of the little things you missed though but I am not that interested.  Now for the spoiler.  It is all in his head. I ******* hate cop outs like this in movies.  We made you watched some scary stuff and acted like it was all real but nah it was all in his head. **** that. Why can't it just be real? A good example would be Witch that came out last year.  That goat was the devil.  Anyways I just think it is pretty lazy writing and everyone wants to be M Night Shyamalan.

You have been warned. While it is better than VHS and ABC of Horror it is still just another anthology that had promise and pissed it away.

This was much better than I expected. I liked it quite a bit. One of those movies that is totally different than most before it. I liken it to Inception, Memento and Primer, not in story by any means, but how it has made me think about the actual process of making movies. The extras were almost as good as the flick.

Been watching movies but have not had a lot of time to post.  I wish this thread had more of a dialogue but it seems most people post and move on.

First up is Death Wish (2017).  Man this was a stinker.  The acting was bad, the story was contrived and pretty boring.  Eli Roth really sleepwalked through this one.  It takes a pretty long time to get going and even when it does it is not exciting.  The original with Bronson at least had a message.  This one tries to but it falls flat.  Avoid at all cost.

Next was Mission Impossible - Fallout.  This one exceeded expectations.  I have not seen a movie like this in awhile.  I thought it was grander than the Avengers and had better action to boot.  It really must be seen on the big screen.  The helicopter scene at the end is worth it alone.  The cast is great and work really well together. It is a rather long movie though but the movie sucks you in and you cant really tell. Highly recommended.

Ugh...Pyewacket was next. This is one of those films that gets pretty highly hyped on the film circuit and after you watch it you wonder if you saw the same thing. The best stuff is in the trailer and it leaves a couple of strings loose in the story.  I understand that you have to suspend your belief for a film like this but that only goes so far.  The girl makes so many bad decisions it is pretty laughable.  The ending is also pretty miserable and doesnt have any real closure.  Has maybe one or two genuine scares but that is not worth the 100 minutes of mundane you just sat through.

Last but not least was an oldie but a goodie...Class of 1999. This one requires no introduction and still plays pretty good.  The movie moves along at a good pace and while the action is pretty tame the ending is pretty wild.  The SFX of the androids at the end is actually pretty good.  The practicle effects are welcome in this age of CGI.  The acting is atrocious and nothing to write home about but it is a guilty pleasure.

I too wish there was more back and forth in this thread. I do find your posts fun to read and agree with you most of the time. I a bit surprised at your liking of MI - Fallout. I was really wanting a great summer movie. I own the first 3 on DVD and remember liking Ghost Protocol. The MI that cam out a few summers back with Tom/Ethan gassed and captured in the listening room with the turntable, escaping from the large metal pole near the beginning and the water heist at the end was much better IMO.

I saw it in a fantastic theater the day it came out a 3PM so no idea going in beyond the rotten tomatoes 98 rating. This one seemed like a never ending quest for the Nukes. Once the helicopters crashed and it all played out on the cliffs I wished I had died in the chopper rather than keep going. I was disappointed.

Thanks for the heads up on Death Wish I was contemplating. Class of 1999 is one I'm not familiar with and will now seek out. Keep em coming!

Finally got to see on of the movies I had been wanting to for awhile but missed in the theaters. The movie is Upgrade.  This one flew under the radar for most people and it should do really well on bluray/download.  The movie is about a quadrapalegic that gets a computer implant that helps him move again. Needless to say shit hits the fan.  It takes awhile for the movie to get going but it is never boring.  I enjoyed the way it was shot a lot.  The fight scenes reminded me of Equilibrium.  What I mean by that is that they look a little to planned out and rehearsed. The violence in the movie though is a little unexpected though. It is worth watching at least once. Also if you read a synopse of the movie it will read like a bad SciFi channel movie but the budget and effects are all nicely done.  Don't be scarred off by the people who produced it and what the have produced. I know that can be either a pull or reject for a lot of people.

No problem I enjoy writing them.  I love movies and I pretty much just watch movies instead of TV.  I try and watch at least one a day but work and the kid keep me busy.

One of the reasons I like the MI series is because the kid gets such a kick out of them.  I also like Tom Cruise, even for all of his faults, and that he does his own stunts.

I really appreciate that Tom does most every stunt. Another thing I was disappointed in was no cool opening scene and a great version of the song. I remember the 2nd or 3rd where he is rock climbing and gets the info on his sun glasses and when he tosses them away Metallica start roaring Da Da Da-Da! Da Da Da-Da!

I always look forward to the opening of Bond movies too. Check out the extras for Spectre, I think the latest bond. Day of the dead scene has 1,000s of extras, no/little CGI and shot in one long tracking shot. Pretty cool if you are a movie fan.

Agreed. I think the movie before this one had the plane stunt from N Korea as the first scene.  I tried getting the kid to watch a bond movie, think it was Casino Royale (new one) but she thought it was boring and not as actiony as MI was.

Yeah that shot is cool in Spectre. I remember reading about it I think in Cinefex but it was awhile ago. My favorite one track shot though is in Kill Bill when the camera goes through The House of Blue Leaves. That was a really well thought out tracking shot.

I re-watched this last night. One of my favorites with Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx. Probably about my 5th time to see it but it is one of my favorites. Great suspense thriller that keeps you guessing to the very end. I'm a big Gerard Butler fan and this movie does not disappoint.....highly recommend. :emotion-21::emotion-21:

Well folks back with another review. This time of the film circuit hit Hereditary.  This one is also from the distributor A24 and had a lot of hype behind it.  I am not going to get into any of the specifics but of course it does not really live up to the hype, does anything?  The acting is fine in the movie with the exception of the teenage son. Jesus he is a real cry baby. He is in high school and cries at the drop of a pin.  The movie has some nice spooky moments but nothing to write home about. It left me with some questions though and I would be happy to talk about them if anyone wants to. One question I have that wont spoil anything is who is lighting all the gd candles? Always wondered about that in movies. There always seems to be tons of candles everywhere and they are always lit. Anyways it is better than Pyewackit but not as good as the Witch. One thing that it does have going for it is that it does not cop out and pretty much goes to the plate swinging.

Incoming... a blast from the past, 1984, RAZORBACK. Oh man I loved this movie.  I used to watch it all the time until I wore out the VHS at my local movie shop.  This movie is really about 3 rolled into one.  It is a giant animal movie formost but it has some hellacious acid trips and just some strange characters.  Its like the Australians push this persona so that other people will not visit. Weird. The monster, while not seen all that much, is a well made practicle effect. The acting is nothing to write home about but the way the movie was shot and made is.  It seems like the director wanted to throw in as many kinds of ideas as he could into one movie.  The movie can seem a little slow though and if your looking for a balls to the wall animal movie don't bother.

On a side note I watched this on the newly released BluRay from down under from Umbrella publishing.  The movie looks better than ever but the sound is not that active. Oh well you can get it off of amazon or diabolikdvd

That is a great film. I remember watching it for the first time on either Betamax or that RCA video disk crap.  Watching it at the beginning though I always wondered why the hell am I watching a bunch of monkeys? But yes in my top 5 of all time.

Been watching a lot of TCM lately but got to watch a movie I have been meaning to revist for a couple of years. The often maligned Predator 2. This was always going to be considered inferior to the original but the 4k version is worth watching if you even have a remote interest in the film.  The sound is good, not great, but the picture has not looked this good since it was in the theater.  The movie itself has some problems but it is a product of the early 90's and late 80's.  It is hampered by its story which tries to do to much with the gangs and drugs and then switches to the nefarious government agency and all their secret plans.  It does go by pretty quickly and to see PVT Hudson (Bill Paxton) acting well like PVT Hudson is worth it.  This was the first time you got to see the infamous alien skull in the Pedator menagerie.

I guess I will resurrect this thread from oblivion.  Been watching a lot of college football on the weekends so that has really eaten into my movie watching but got back on the horse yesterday. I watched a movie called Mandy.  I dont really know hoe to catagorize the film but it seems to be going between Sci-Fi and Horror.  This is a Nicholas Cage film but thanfully there is not a lot of him talking and more of him doing his usual crazy shit.  This is the second movie by Panos Cosmatos, the first being Beyond the Black Rainbow.  If you have seen that movie you pretty much know what to expect.  The movie takes a while to get going, about a hour really.  There is some graphic violence but nothing that has not been done before and while some will consider it over the top I thought it was a solid meh. The movie has a lot of color and filtration in the film.  Most of the movie seems to be in reds and blues.  I was bored for most of it and the characters where pretty bland.  I was glad they reaped what the sowed but getting there was a chore.  I guess it should really be considered more a avant garde film in the spirit of Dali, Gasper Noe, Nicolas Winding Refn or Lars von Trier. If you enjoy that kind of movie you will probably like this one. On a side note the soundtrack sounded like a Tangerine Dream score but not as good.

I also went and saw the new Predator film last Thursday.  I am sorry if you liked it but it was a straight up dumpster fire.  I thought the story was a bit contrived and the lead actor while good in Logan was just not a good lead.  I also do not understand why you make a movie involving the military and get so many things wrong.  Do they not have advisors or something? Anyways I also can't stand it when the movie does not follow the rules of its own universe. I understand that there is a thing as susupending belief but if you set up rules in the films universe and then not follow them then I am out.  SPOILER  What I mean by this is that in one scene the heros, about 7, shoot a predator with a mix of 5.56 and 9mm rounds and you see the rounds bouncing off of him with no effect. This includes his face. Now this happens more than once mind you with our lead shouting "Light him up" before every burst. Anyways after doing this and the predator falling to the ground after a predator weapon is used against it the hero walks up to the predator and shoots it in the face with a 9mm pistol killing it.  Are you ******* serious!?! Now about the military the problems I had were that they take a active duty soldier to the VA, a 20's something pilot is described as flying Hueys (uh no, this is not vietnam) while having a black hawk tattoo on his arm, lastley everyone uses american made weapons but the bad guys, not predators, use german hk g36 (WTF?). Also the main human bad guy dies in such an absurd way that if you blink you will miss it, seriously he is there for the whole film and then in half a second he is gone.  End SPOILERS  It was a very frustrating film and I am not even going to get into the scene right before the credits roll. Anyways watch at your own risk.

Best thing about the movie, besides it being over, was the poster.
