Moderators Youthman Posted October 9, 2012 Moderators Share Posted October 9, 2012 Tonight I picked up a pair of KLF-30's and a KLF-C7. My wife hasn't seen them yet....shhhhh...I don't think she will notice them hiding between the other two speakers. [] Although she hasn't seen them, she knew I was going to buy them tonight and was quite cool with it. At this point, she doesn't mind me buying new toys as long as they stay in the HT. Her new hobby has been running. I never knew running could get expensive (new shoes every 200 miles, $175 for her first full marathon in January that she is training for....). It was way too late in the evening to do any comparison between the three but I'll be able to tomorow evening. I demoed them with my Harman Kardon AVR70 so I can't wait to hear what they sound like with some raw power driving those HUGE dual 12's! Rivernuggets
Nice find Youth, congrats. Yeah I tell my wife they multiply on their own. [] Always enjoy reading your speaker reviews. Looking forward to this one. Is that the 83 next to the KLF? Have you compared two way to three way among the Klipsch lines before?
Moderators dtel Posted October 9, 2012 Moderators Share Posted October 9, 2012 Hi my name is Youthman,.........and I have a speaker problem.......... [][] Just kidding, it could be alot worse, have fun and just remember it's just for research, you have to see if you have the speakers you really want by trying all the others. You better be nice to your wife you could never outrun her. [:|] She must really like running, it's not something you do if you don't love it, it's tough but I would guess it will keep her in great shape ! How many fat runners do you see ? TasDom
One more set of speakers and you better buy yourself some running shoes! [Y] Enjoy!
Scrappydue
Your as bad as I am. I can barely pull my car in my garage I have so many speakers out there "waiting" in their boxes for our cross country move. Emotiva boxes and amps all over upstairs. Moderators Youthman Posted October 9, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted October 9, 2012 Yeah I tell my wife they multiply on their own. Mind if I borrow that line sometime? [] Always enjoy reading your speaker reviews. Looking forward to this one. Is that the 83 next to the KLF? Have you compared two way to three way among the Klipsch lines before? Thx River. Yes, that's my 83's next to the KLF's and the B&W DM 604 S2's on the outside. The B&W's were my first 3-way speaker, the KLF's are my first Klipsch 3-way speaker. I have heard other member's heritage 3-ways but never in my own setup. Looking forward to having some fun with them. Hi my name is Youthman,.........and I have a speaker problem.......... Among the many others. [] have fun and just remember it's just for research, you have to see if you have the speakers you really want by trying all the others. I think that's what I enjoy best. Just having the opportunity to hear the different models in my own home, just for knowledge and experience sake. You better be nice to your wife you could never outrun her. That's for sure. She must really like running, it's not something you do if you don't love it, it's tough but I would guess it will keep her in great shape ! How many fat runners do you see ? She has been running 9 - 12 miles once a week and several days a week she runs short 3 - 6 mile runs. She did 5k tonight in 30 minutes. She's not the fastest by any means but I'm super proud of her. I sure can't do under 10 minute/mile for a 5k. I even made her a website so she could blog about her journey from MomtoMarathon.com as she prepares for her first Full Marathon in January. One more set of speakers and you better buy yourself some running shoes! Or a hotel room. LOL Your as bad as I am. I can barely pull my car in my garage I have so many speakers out there "waiting" in their boxes for our cross country move. Emotiva boxes and amps all over upstairs. And that's a bad thing? [] Mmmm 4 12's.......I bet they look quite intimidating in person. They make the tripple 8" drivers in the flanking speakers look so tiny. I'm just glad my son and I started working out together last month. Carrying an bulky 100 lb speaker by yourself is fun....at least until the morning when my back realizes what I've done. moray james
They sure look right for the part. Remember the KLF20 &30 use the shiny black poly tweeter diaphragms. A set of Bob's Ti diaphragms for $60..00 will smoorh and extend them like you would not believe. So too with the phenoluc mid diaphragms but those are only available from Klipsch. There is a company in Toronto who just bought a Klipsch service inventory and are selling all these parts cheap on ebay now check it out. Tweaked out I much prefer KLF20 to Forte ll or Forte, only the CF3 is better in my findings. Dont be afraid to play with installing longer vent made from Kraft paper to extend the bass response easy to do. Have fun and thanks for posting such nice pictures. Best regards Moray James.. PS: give your wife a kiss from all the guys at the Klipsch forum you are a luck man.
Moderators Youthman Posted October 9, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted October 9, 2012 Thanks Moray, I'm not much of a tweeker, probably because I do not have what I consider "critical ears". Never remotely considered myself an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination. I'll check Ebay to see what is listed. Thx for the info. PS: give your wife a kiss from all the guys at the Klipsch forum you are a luck man. I did that tonight when I got home with the speakers. Shodrewken
Congrats Youthman! I've always wanted to own a pair of KLF-20's or 30's, but as it stands now I'm lucky I got what I have crammed in our tiny place, gonna have to get a house before I start my speaker "collection" again. I'm excited to hear your thoughts between all the systems you have!

Thaddeus Smith
oh man, KLF-30s are on my list of choices for my lounge. Never can find a pair when i have the cash available, and if I do they tend to be outside the realm of reasonable pricing.
t-man
Youthman, Now you have done it! You entered the world of Klipsch 3-way and I'm afraid there is no turning back. You have some fun times ahead of you for sure with your testing. I look forward to your thoughts on how they compare to the RFs. I had the KLF 30 myself, but elected to sell them in favor of the KLF 20 that fit better in my space. Those 30s were just too tall with my other furniture in the room/area. Of course, that isn't a problem for you, I see. Some people feel the 20s are better than the 30s, but I did prefer the sound/slam of the 30s. Be sure to check for dust cap looseness and potential cabinet glue/sealing issues before your testing is concluded. If you push really hard in different areas on the front/rear baffles with your hand/fingers (really hard) it should not move/give at all anywhere. If you see some movement, you are looking at a reseal, which isn't that big of a deal. Most people aren't even aware of the issue/know they have a problem. You may also want to make sure all your connections are tight to the drivers/crossovers. I was thinking something was a bit off (not obvious), and then realized one of my woofers wasn't even connected (wire came loose). I wonder how long the previous owner was enjoying his speakers this way (:
Moderators Youthman Posted October 9, 2012 Author Moderators Share Posted October 9, 2012 I heard the KLF 20 and man did they sound sweet, This is the first time I have seen or heard the KLF series. I too am looking forward to listening to them tonight. Congrats Youthman! I've always wanted to own a pair of KLF-20's or 30's, I'm excited to hear your thoughts between all the systems you have! Thanks cviper. The water pump went out in my truck (losing 2 gallons/day) so I probably won't be able to listen to them until later this evening (I'm no mechanic but am grateful for Youtube []). Nice, I think your going to like the 30s, I thought my 20s sounded alot like the 83s and had some nice bass to boot I imagine with dual 12's, there will be Plenty-O-Bass to boot. Sweet! I have not heard the KLF-30's yet, looking forward to hearing what you think about it. You have an impressive collection of speakers. Yeah, here I was criticizing willland for his massive "collection". Think I even called him a hoarder at one time. Now I can no longer point the finger. [] Congrats on the new toys, knowing you I have a feeling you got a pretty good deal! Ah you know me all to well. [] Here's a link to the Toronto Klipsch dealer. Good guy. Thx for the link joker. Wow... living on the edge and this being an election year and all.... great move.... lol.. I'm on the "edge" of my seat waiting anxiously until I can demo them this evening. oh man, KLF-30s are on my list of choices for my lounge. Never can find a pair when i have the cash available, and if I do they tend to be outside the realm of reasonable pricing. The main reason I bought these were because they were affordably priced. Keep an eye out for them. They don't come up too often (especially the 30's) and maybe try to put some coin for them so that when they do pop up, you are ready to jump on them. Good luck with your search. Youthman, Now you have done it! You entered the world of Klipsch 3-way and I'm afraid there is no turning back. Of course, that isn't a problem for you, I see. Yes, they are quite large. Very wide at 14" to accomodate the 12" drivers and pretty deep at 16". The height isn't an issue for me since they are just barely taller than my RF-7's and shorter than my RF-83's. Some people feel the 20s are better than the 30s, but I did prefer the sound/slam of the 30s. I'm looking forward to that. I first experienced that with the KG-1.5's I had. One day I picked the speaker up and the whole back plate fell off. I ended up buying some silicone and it sealed it up nicely.
