As Siva stated, and make sure you leave the LFE setting, if you have one, and the standard 120HZ. What this means, is that if your front 3 are capable of 60 HZ, then set it at around 60 HZ. I usually make it a bit higher, like 65HZ in the case of 60. If you don't like the sound, try 70 HZ, etc... 80 HZ is the THX standard, but I like to hear a capable speaker rather than delegate all the bass to the sub(s). Also, make sure the LFE is set at 120HZ.
