Thanks for the responses Tom and Chris. Maybe Dave will weigh in on the question. Chris I gather you are of the same mind. The less between the diaphram and our ears the better. The purpose of the bug screen is obvious but what was PWKs reason for including that 11/16th" (sorry not 7/16th") ID rubber washer?

Absolutely, do not use the rubber with the plastic k-55 adapter.

Personally I remove the bug screen from the K-55 as well, but that is personal preference.

Are you referring to the the plastic adapters from dayton, such as these

Does removing the bug screen make a audio difference, what was the purpose for this screen if so.

the bug screen is what it's name means keeps the bugs out , spiders are the worst for crawling in a CD , remember the driver was actually build for outdoor use .

most if not all pro CD's have a bug screen

does it affect audio , that a debatable topic :)
