Advice on extension cables

I am running all of my amps on the left side of the theater room and all of my Reference power centers/voltage stabilizers are on the right in 2 separate racks. I was going to run very thick insulated 12 awg grounded extension cords behind the wall of the theater room to the right side where I can connect all the amps and components to the stabilizers etc etc. Anyone have tips on what extension cords I should use? I found some thick 12 awg grounded 25 footers on ebay for 28 dollars a piece and I need 5. Any input before I buy these is always happily received.

any chance of installing an outlet? is there an outlet near the position on the other side of the wall or any switches in the area on either side of the wall?

when you say "behind the wall" what does that mean exactly?

why dont you run some romex wire and extend an outlet like speakerfritz said? That wire is made for in wall and full amperage - much safer vs buy EBAY! extention wires

looking at your system I think you would be happier with it done correctly and not skimp out

As mentioned if you have behind the wall access you might want to consider running romex and add an outlet. I wouldn't recommend running extension or power cords inside a wall.

But rather than extension cords if you go that route I suggest just replacing the entire power cord with a longer cord.

Here are a couple examples.

Good quality other lengths available.

Very good quality and custom made to length needed.

You know it never occurred to me to do that. I have outlets near the amps but i wanted them all plugged into the power centers and voltage stabilizers. I do have access behind the wall my theater room is a secluded room on the 4th floor of our home and it is all accessible behind the walls. I never thought to just getting good quality longer power cords instead of extension cables. I'll buy 5 25 footers from monoprice. I will search for 12 awg. Thanks so much guys this is why i come on here to ask before doing anything lol.

14 awg should be fine, if your circuit breaker is 15 amp the wiring inside the wall is most likely 14 awg.

If you want something larger here is a link for custom made 10 awg power cables. They also have a 12 awg but the price is much higher because of the type of wire they use for their 12 awg.

Or buy what ever guage wire you'd like and make your own with these

if you have an outlet on the other side of a wall near the position of where you need the outlet, punch through the wall and install a new outlet tapping off the power runs that feen the other room outlet. sometimes these are wired with home runs which means that the wires going into the other room outlet are single black, single red, single white....and that means that either a red or black is being used and the other is not so you can use the unused red or black to run a second outlet. The home runs with both red and black provide the upgrade capability to got to 220 if ever needed so a lot of homes have home runs feeding the outlets.

Running extention cords all over the place is trouble waiting to happen and if your house burns down the insurance companies with the help of the fire inspector is going to give you a hard time. I once had an extension cord that was cold to touch during use and one of my kids place a newspaper over it....the newspaper was enough insulation to cause a heat build up and the newspaper caught fire setting off the smoke alarms on two floors. We put the fire out and afterwards I tossed every single extension cord in use in the house. The only cords I keep now are used during construction projects and are rated at 30 amps each.
