D-Rex
I have The RF3ii and an RC7 but the size of their woofers seem to match perfectly. Is there a performance difference? I have a damaged RC7 woofer and was looking to replace it so I wondered if they were interchange-able.
bhenry
I don't know what the differences are but if I recall correctly, they are not the same part number.
D-Rex
Yes, I noticed that too. That makes me think that there is a difference between the two but I didn't want to assume, just in case they simply slapped a different part number onto the same woofer... Kain
The woofer in the RF-3 is the K-1083-SB. The woofer in the RC-7 is the K-1083-SV. Both are exactly the same other than the fact that the "SV" one is shielded while the "SB" one is not. I recently had to replace one of my RC-7 woofers so I did some research on this. D-Rex
Shielded used to matter a lot if it was working close to the TV. However, since magnetic fields don't affect the picture quality anymore, does it matter? Is there a good reason why the woofer would need to be shielded that I am missing? Where did you find a replacement woofer for your RC7 and how much did it cost?
Kain
I am not sure but I don't think there is any difference between the two other than one being shielded and the other not being shielded. I got my shielded RC-7 driver from here: http://reconingspeakers.com/products-page/brands/klipsch-rc-7-8-speaker/ I, in fact, got the last one they had and it seems they won't be getting any more. They are now selling the non-shielded RF-3 driver as a RC-7 replacement.
CECAA850
Shielding only mattered with the old CRT screen TV's. Magnetic fields would screw up the picture. If you have a plasma or LCD/LED style tv, it's not an issue.
InVeNtOr
i would think since the center channel is near any and all equipement you would want that magnet shielded. ok, so it might not hurt the tv, but will it hurt any of the other products it sits above? just a thought..... D-Rex
Good point! Although my center channel isn't close to any of my receiver or blu ray player, I do have plans to put them together within a TV stand. So, does anyone know if non-shielded woofers would affect any of the audio equipment?
