Anyone in the sf bay area who browses for Klipsch stuff on craigslist?

What is up with this guy who posts like 10 times a day with messages like this?

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/eld/3712892282.html

This guy has been posting for months now and every week his posts get progressively crazier.

Its like watching one of those lunatic homeless people who dance naked on the street.

Im starting to think 'Martin and his buddy' are his imaginary friends!

What is the deal and I'm guessing hes probably a forum member here :)

Obviously a guy who got burned, or at least "imagines" he got burned, by "Martin and Buddy" . . . Or competing buyers/flippers he is trying to undermine. I have seen this kind of thing before, like the original Craigslist poster: 1) a guy who is flagging craigslisters to a couple of genuine scammers, 2) a guy who gut burned and is trying to get payback: 3) a guy himself who is trying to undermine his buying/selling/flipping competition, or 4) just some sad mentally impaired person hearing voices in his imaginary world. Wrongly or rightfully, the poster is obviously trying to recruit help to "flag for removal" every post on Craigslist his "enemies" make. Regardless, just sad, that someone's life is so small it centers around a commitment to make like posts for "years" ahead. Even if once scammed, sad he cannot just let go and move on. The weather in SF is too nice to spend your life making such posts. Need to take my own advice and go outside now!

I saw something similar a few months ago by a guy who was supposedly ripped off on a Sansui receiver. His warnings were remomed by Craigs List.

I would still be careful. I recently read about two Audio Karma members who were robbed in public places during Craigs List exchanges. One was handicapped and knocked to the ground while onlookers did nothing. Generous AKers afterward sent him donations. I would advise anyone meeting a stranger this way to bring a friend or two.

Like you, I've also seen similar posts regarding various transactions and also believe the overriding message, for me at least, is one of "be careful" and do not act from a position of naivety or ignorance when dealing with an on-line transaction or a transaction where you do not know the other party.

In an on-line transaction I was duped last spring while trying to buy a pair of PCBs for a couple of First Watt F3 amplifier clone builds that I had planned. The guy had facilitated a successful group buy on the "DIY Audio" site about a year or so earlier before his latest solicitation to people interested in a group buy.

It is very easy to get "lulled into a sense of security and trust" and I now realize that I wasn't cautious enough or thinking about it very specifically, but the organizer asked for my money right away instead of formally setting a publically posted closing date and publically collecting money. I sent the total amount of over $100 and over time received a series of "it's in the mail" types of messages then nothing, the seller vanished. I had even asked for "tracking" if the boards were really "in the mail" and received no tracking information and never received the PCBs. He even started a thread on this forum, although it seems to have corresponded more closely to his first group buy (rather than my situation from last year), but no body replied here showing any interest.

Also, while not related to audio trading/selling/buying, it seems that several "worst case" situations have made the news on a semi-national level.

Even Wikipedia has a section at the bottom of this page with a section titled "notable internet homicides"

It does seem that Craigslist is trying several tactics to eliminate

scam and spam. I use CL now and then. I can state in bold letters that I will

not respond to emails. I still get a lot of email that sound legitimate; delete

them all. I list my number in alphanumeric and put the area code somewhere else

besides next to the other numbers. I still get text responses from ones who want my paypal

information so they can “pay” me. Maybe sincere CL users can help others by

calling out the scammers.

Those L.I. killings are not far from where I grew up. It's a beautiful area of beach that stretches for hundreds of miles. What a pity. I remember reading about several serial killings near the NY mero area, the most notorous being the son of sam killings.

There was another craigs List incident a while ago where some guy put in a fake ad that a woman was abandoning her house and everything was free for the taking. She was actually going on vacation. she returned to a completely gutted house. Even the fixtures and copper pipes were pulled out. The guy eventually was caught. It turned out he had a runnung feud with the woman.

There are some REALLY messed up people in this world. Hope he enjoys his time in prison.

  • 2 months later...

By SF standards that did not strike me as crazy at all.........

I dont know, it's been 2 months and this same guy is still posting his crazy rantings atleast 10 times a day, 7 days a week (and thats only what I am able to see as I only log onto craiglist in the mornings).

I think this guy is the real deal when it comes to mental instability.

Edit. Forgot to add that his name is apparently Ricardo or RIchard. I'm betting money hes a forum member here. I'm also guessing that the target of his ire, 'Martin' is also a member here.

If youre reading this, please stop spamming craigslist dude! It sucks for people who are legitimately trying to use craigsist to find vintage gear and have to navigate your endless fake ads on craigslist!

1. My name is Richard
2. I know a forum member who's name is Marty
3. I visited San Francisco once as a child.
