philipbarrett
Any suggestions? Budget is less than $1,000.
Dr Morbius
I've had great sucess with the Pro-Ject Tube Box S preamp - $450 out the door, but you have to change out the tubes (I went with Sov-Tek, much nicer tube).
tigerwoodKhorns
Tercel for sale: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/173077/1954181.aspx#1954181
Guest David H
I tried several sub 1k Tube phono stages, and all were less than stellar in my opinion. I finally tried the PS-Audio GCPH SS phono stage. I am very pleased. The Juicy Music Tercel would certainly be a good candidate for your system as long a you have a high output cart, if not you can always get a nice step up. tromprof
I am using a Yaqin MS-22B purchased here: http://stores.ebay.com/Canadian-HiFi-Online?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 Very inexpensive and a very good performer. I did swap out the cheap tubes for JJs but it is the best sounding phono pre I have heard in my system by a long shot.
philipbarrett
Thanks - I pm'd on the Juicy which would nicely match my Juicy pre-amp. Stupid question time - is my Ortofon Pro-S an MC or MM cartridge? Can't find this anywhere in the specs - http://www.ortofon.us/product_detail?pid=14&category_id=
skriefal
I'm the new owner of the Tercel that was linked above. I guess Gopher2k forgot to update the thread to indicate that it was sold. The Ortofon Pro S is, IIRC, a version of the OM-series cartridge. Which means that it is a moving iron cartridge, compatible with any moving magnet phono stage.
