Daddy Dee
Ron, banana plugs are for convenience of hookup. They do not improve performance over other means of terminating ends. But they sure are easy to connect and disconnect amps and such. IMO anything that delivers an adequate signal will be fine. one thought on double or single ended plugs... with double ended plugs you never have to worry about the leads touching each other. Some amps have closer than standard double plug spacing. monoprice.com has the best prices AFAIK.
leftwinger57
Not being an owner of larger Klipsch I can not speak to your specific model. As to the general use of bananas I also think they are an excellent way to terminate wires both at amp and or speaker ends.I prefer the double set screw type over the crimp style.Mine the collar unscrews which is color coded then reveals the set screws. I actually got my set at Lowes.
Rich_Guy
GLS banana's from Speakerrepair.com are one of the best and very affordable too. Their locking banana's are my favorites but they have a couple of different types you can choose from. http://www.speakerrepair.com/page/category/AHH_Banana.html These are their locking banana's you twist them to lock in tightly, twist the other way to loosen them for easy remove/install nice tight fit installed. Islander
I prefer BFA (British Federation of Audio) type banana plugs over regular bananas. The BFA type are cylindrical, usually with a wavy longitudinal cut to allow for tension when inserting into terminals. The regular bananas contact the terminals mostly at the middle, where the plugs are widest, while the BFA types are able to make contact along their full length. The increased contact area seems like a good idea to me, which is the main reason I use them. They're sold by lots of suppliers. tube fanatic
Regardless of the type of plugs you decide to use, pick up a container of DeOxit wipes and put a thin coating on the pins. It provides a definite improvement in the metal to metal contact conductivity. Maynard
RonW.
Thanks guys for the replies, I like the GLS Audio and have to decide on plugs, locking or the BFA split type. RW.
wizop
the monoprice ones work for me. they are easy to wire as you thread the wire through, strip just a little and fan the wire over the top and then screw down the other half of the plug. to ensure a tight fit you can gently use pliers to push the point toward the base which will fan out the connectors on the side. philly0116
I got mine at Lowes as well. I use them everywhere that I can. Not so much for sound quality, just easier to connect and disconnect. I like the look too for what thats worth! []
