Rick Posted August 26, 2013 Share Posted August 26, 2013 For your consideration is a Yamaha RX-V995 receiver. It is in excellent condition for its age (1999), I'd say a 9/10 on the Audiogon scale. This receiver was second from the top of the line at that time, and had an original msrp of $1000 . While it does not have HDMI or even component video connections, it could still be used for the latest HD Audio Codecs. It has 5.1 channel inputs, so if you have a blu-ray player with multichannel outs, you could send the audio to this receiver for DTS HD Master or Dolby True HD sound, then send the video directly from the player to your tv. Also, you could run the multichannel outs from an SACD/DVD-A player to this unit to enjoy those formats. It has pre-amp outs for all channels as well, in case you wanted to hook up an external amp for more power to your speakers. What I like about this unit is that is has controls on the front panel much like a 2 channel receiver does (including record out control), so if you are inclinded to use tone controls it is easy, no need to have to navigate through cumbersome onscreen menus and/or have your tv on just to listen to music. I have been surprised that the tuner and phono sections sound better that I had expected. Here are some specs: Power, Min.
