Stories like this make me feel unintelligent!!!!!

He reminded me of about a third of my friends at Nuclear Power School.

It is interesting his parents have figured out they have a pair of geniuses, and moved to help their kids. Now the story remains to be written on how well he figures things out on his own. If you want to read about similar burning passion and smarts that has not gone well after a similar start, google nuclear boy scout.

Dave, not to get off topic here, but I caught up with my old friend Aaron Newman last week. As usual, the conversation turned to his days with Lafayette Radio. He again clarified that Hegeman's association with the famous KT-600 preamp, 550 power amp, and some of the smaller integrated amps is a total myth. Those designs were all exclusively developed by Aaron whose position as chief engineer came about when Lafayette's association with Hegeman Labs ended. In fact, Hegeman recommended Aaron for the position since they had worked together in Glen Ridge, NJ at the former's home. Fwiw................ Maynard

Very soon they will have the brain mapping devices which will be able to provide some insights about the organic architecture of intelligence. It is pretty obvious that some souls are innately gifted. Then there are the acquired savants, people of normal intelligence that go through some type of life trauma and transform into being gifted. Somebody has Einstein's brain preserved in a jar. Wonder what it thinks about these days?

Hello Maynard,

I happened to run across your post mentioning Aaron Newman and Stewart Hegeman. I am a bit younger than Aaron (75) but I worked with him back in the mid 1950's when he was at Lafayette and would be interested in saying hello to him. He might remember me, Philip Perlman, who worked with him and did a lot of technical writing at the time, writing the manuals for many of the audio kits back then.

best,

/* Phil */

Hi Phil and welcome to the forum. Glad you posted! I'll give Aaron a call later today to ask if I can pass along his phone #. If ok, I'll send you a PM. Did you also know and work with Harry Munz? Aaron asked me to look him up, but I haven't had the chance.

Phil, want to thank you guys at Lafayette, Allied, and such for ruining so many of our lives here. While others chased girls and cars, we got caught up by your audio porn and spent hours lusting over stuff we couldn't afford. Now, we are forced to find this dusty, rusty stuff so we can get our grubby paws on it while muttering "I LOVES the precious..."

Dave
