tony61
Ok, so I picked up an old Technics turntable at goodwill for 5 bucks and revived an old Technics receiver to power it...god I miss my vinyl! The question is this. Is it ok to use the same speakers that I currently have on a 3.1 H/T and leave all the speaker wires connected to both receivers? I have a Denon receiver and some ksf 10.5's for the H/T using bare wire and banana plugs for the 2 channel (obviously not both running at the same time). Just curious.... muel
No. Find one of these Niles switch boxes: http://www.nilesaudio.com/images/PDF/SPK-1_Cutsheet.pdf This requires a 12 volt trigger to activate the switch. I just used an old wallwart I had lying around. You could put it and the receiver you are switching to on the same powerstrip.
Timmikid
Sorry, off topic, but the thread title gave me a chuckle. I sometimes do the "famous last words game" with friends (usually with beer around). You just have to come up with a profession and his last words... This one was for the electrotechnician. Thebes avatar picture came to mind...

I just bought the SPK-1 speaker switch to switch my speakers between My McIntosh c28 and Scott 340b. Obviously being vintage they both don't have a 12 volt trigger. My question is can I use that 12 v wall wart and strip ends to connect to Niles switch + and - controller strip and plug wall wart into back of McIntosh switched plug? Seems like easy question, but just want to make sure. Thanks Edited April 7, 2014 by ajoker2c

NOSValves
Why not use this one? No trigger required. http://www.nilesaudio.com/product.php?prodID=DPS-1&recordID=Source%20Switching%20Systems&categoryID=Switching%20Systems&catcdID=10&prdcdID=FG00003

Thank you sir! Hopefully it helps someone else down the line researching Niles switches. It's funny you responded Craig as I've been looking for a tech locally here in Toronto to restore the Scott 340b. I've read all the positive reviews of your work with them through my research If shipping isint a factor crossing the border and I cannot find someone here I just might be contacting you. Thank you for a correct answer

muel
The reason why I like the Niles with the 12v trigger is because I had the 12v wallwart on the same power strip as the Scott 299b so I would always be sure that the speakers would be connected when the tube amp was on. Even though I never had a problem it made me nervous and I haven't used it for a while. I can trust myself (mostly) but not others in the house. I could just see somebody unplugging the wallwart to plug in the vacuum cleaner. I'd like to find a switch that would support 5 or 6 amps to one set of speakers. I'm wondering if I could use this in reverse? NILES SSVC-6 I would have to REALLY SURE that I never had more than one selected at a time! NOSValves
Muel,I'd be asking Niles before you tried using that 6 speaker switch in reverse like that. With all the volume controls and impedance matching it does who knows what would happen. Edited April 9, 2014 by NOSValves

By the way if the wall wart will plug into Aux power outlet on the back of the Scott it would trigger the switch when you turn on the amp.

I have HT in default and McIntosh in 'B' with a set of speaker cables for my Scott 340b hanging on hook ready for a quick swap out with Mac for Tubey goodness! Well worth the coin for ease of use and flexibility.
mustang guy
Niles equipment is great. It seems like they make everything nobody else fools with. Since you are using a 12V trigger device, you can get a Niles AC-3 to turn on the device when you switch to that device. That's what I do, and it works great.
