randy1957
I bought a pair of H-700/Heresy speakers in 1979. A cup of something, don't know what, was set on one of them creating a circular stain. I tried to sand out the stain but eneded up with that spot not excepting a stain. Question: What kind of wood was used to make the cabinets on those speakers, looks like oak, was the wood a vaneer or a solid piece of wood? Any help wood be much appreciated... thanks! ryanm84
Almost certainly plywood and not a solid piece of wood. If you have the labels on the back they will tell you what wood was used. Fixing a stain on plywood can be tricky. Too much sanding and you get into the substrate.
Budman
welcome to the forum. the letter T would stand for 1979 HBR on the label would stand for Heresy Birch Raw and in 79 it would not say H-700 but would say Heresy HWO - Heresy Walnut Oil HOO - Heresy Oak Oil
ZombieWoof
sanding veneer is almost always a bad idea try using a stripper &/or reconditioner to pull the spot out

colterphoto1
HERESY, WALNUT, OILED is what you have there. There is a bleach product that can be applied to wood to take out stains. Check your paint store. Any sanding should be done VERY LIGHTLY lest you burn through the veneer. A product called Watco Rejuvenating Oil is what a lot of us use to build back up the factory Boiled Linseed Oil (BLO for short) finish that was factory applied.
