Moderators Youthman Posted December 14, 2013 Author Moderators Share Posted December 14, 2013 Ok here is the official comparison.... The RF-83's sound MUCH better than the RF-42ii's. More dynamics, more bass, more presence and more detail.
Deang
Damn, that's harsh - poor kid. But you're not really any better off. Klipsch really needs to end their love affair with dollar a piece Mylars and penny junk resistors.
Arky
Get'em Dean.....not like they haven't heard the difference. Merry Christmas.
Moderators Youthman Posted December 15, 2013 Author Moderators Share Posted December 15, 2013 No disrespect to DeanG, my son is 14 and has the Rf7 / RC-64ii in a 9x9 bedroom and because of his entertainment center we can't even toe in the 7s at all. So needless to say, the setup is less than ideal but he is thrilled with the setup (I would have been thrilled at his age too). There just isn't a need for me to upgrade the crossovers when I don't listen to them and my son is very happy with how they sound. If they were in my living room, that would be a different story. Deang
No disrespect taken. I totally understand, but I was also talking about the parts in the 7IIs. The original 7s suffer from a different kind of problem. I shouldn't have said anything, I was just messing with you.
Moderators Youthman Posted December 15, 2013 Author Moderators Share Posted December 15, 2013 It's all good DeanG, I thought I had stepped on your toes. LOL. It's all good. You have a great reputation for taking something that is already a great product and making it even greater. One day, I hope to be able to A/B the difference myself in my own setup. Moderators Youthman Posted December 15, 2013 Author Moderators Share Posted December 15, 2013 No, I have never upgraded any of my Klipsch speakers, nor have I heard any with upgraded xovers.

Deang
Would you believe I've never done a reference IV or newer model? Plenty of nibbles but no bites, which I've found really interesting.

Dean, I am sure you could work your magic with just about any model speaker, but so far I have never felt the need to "supercharge" my RF-63's. But, I have "considered" DeanG'ing my RB-35's. Moderators Youthman Posted December 15, 2013 Author Moderators Share Posted December 15, 2013 I'm with Bill. I can see with the RF7 if it helps tame some of the harshness but listening to the RF7ii today, I was in audio bliss listening to Will Champlain singing "Carry on"
Deang
It's not always about "taming highs, which I suppose is the natural thing to think about when it comes to horns that have taken on a blaring quality. Replacing cheap polyester/Mylar capacitors with good polypropylenes, at the very least those in series with the horn, sounds really nice. It really is a case of better, not just different. You guys don't know what you're missing. Okay, I have to stop before I start sounding like an infomercial.

Moderators Youthman Posted December 16, 2013 Author Moderators Share Posted December 16, 2013 Dean, shoot me a PM on the details. If it works out, I'll be glad to write up a review on the differences.
Schu
Let me do your 7IIs and I'll wave labor and shipping. absolutely... more than a fair deal and it's reversible.
CECAA850
and it's reversible If you can solder (and he sends you your old parts). Honestly, they'll be so pretty once Dean is done, you won't want to touch them. Edited December 16, 2013 by CECAA850
