Should Forums be moderated for content?

  1. 1. Should Forums be moderated for content? (moving to other forums based on relevancy)

    • Yes, strictly (requires more work, but keeps things nice and super-tidy)
      5
    • Yes, loosely (requires less work, and not as strict, but helps keep forums relevant)
      17
    • Not at all (keeps forums open to topic relevancy, reducing need to click around but adds potential noise to weed through)

This isn't hard: just look at the latest posts using http://community.klipsch.com/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=viewNewContent&search_app=forums.

This will list all new threads and those that have last posted within threads. Luddism is probably the first sign senility...

Lighten up guys...it's neither bad nor time consuming to find what you want if you've been here a short while.

I believe what Chad is saying is that it should also be equally easy for newcomers to find stuff here, and to not be bothered by stuff that''s off-topic, and frankly, something that is probably better suited for Facebook. I find that these off-topic threads probably scare away the prime audience which are those newcomers interested in new, cohort age-relevant audio gear and its use. The Oldtimers can retire to the back reaches of the forum to have off-topic discussion - ask for a B.S. forum account here and you'll get one.

Chad's neither wrong nor unreasonable, but perhaps a bit too nice: I'm seeing this place becoming like a church congregation with everyone 80+ years old. It needs new blood and completely new topics from a young and more diverse crowd to stay relevant and alive, not more and more posts from guys that pride themselves of 20,000 postings over a decade...talking about anything but audio and music because they're tired of talking about audio.

This isn't Facebook for lifetime remembrances--it's an audio forum.

Looks like Chad voted too.....................

I have to say, I appreciate the fact that there's no "my way or the highway" approach here. Taking the time to check the pulse of the forum and acting accordingly is definitely a plus in my book. Gratzi,

Totally agree. Lot's of request have already been implemented. The voice of the community is not falling on deaf ears.

Great job Chad and Amy!

I liked the layout the way it was but that doesn't mean that all changes would be bad and I think if the focus is placed on the best search criteria because IMHO, that wasn't great before and it's still lacking a lot and as stated by others, there are many broken links and I've ended up making a few posts that I'm sure the information has been stated in past posts. I'll go ahead and ask a question about the current organization of the site..........................does a list still exist of all the threads that I'm active in? I've been looking and that was something I used all of the time.

Click your user name, then content.

Thanks! I would still prefer that it was on the home page......................I call for a vote! :P

Then "Right This Minute" was created because Thebes just had to clogg up 2 Channel.

Posts, in 2 Channel, that have fostered great new awareness for many forum members, regarding "all" ages of recorded music.

It can also be an expensive "thread" to follow as it can hit you hard and fast in the pocket book.

lost of sensitive gentleman here. man! i'm cool with organization. i just hope threads dont get moved like crazy. home theater section has most of my buddies, and sometimes i might ask there opinion on my 2 channel setup cause they are all my buddies. when i go to the 2 channel section lots of the names are strangers to me. maybe i should meet more people? my vote is for slight moderation!

Another thing I've noticed with new posters. Occasionally someone new will come along and pose a question that's in the wrong section. There's always a forum member around to point him in the right direction. That's another thing I've always liked about this forum, the helpfulness of the members.

While I'm sure Klipsch does not want or need to run a social networking site, the exchanges in the old "General" forum attracted newcomers and seemed to involve most members. I enjoyed reading about members new dogs, project cars, dinner fixins, personal problems, and jokes. Don't see much of that anymore and it looks like forum traffic is way down now too compared to just a few years ago. Some pretty fascinating (sometimes mildly disturbing) charactors have passed through this forum. Just guessing that many old timers still lurk in from time to time just looking for something interesting or funny.

Why not just take the old "General" forum and call it a "General Discussion" forum or " Lounge" and place it near the top where new posters can introduce themselves and everyone can join in and post friendly (and nonsensical) discussions, catch up with each other, and then move on to 2-Channel or whatever. Sort of the welcome mat to the rest of the forum instead of a "What's on your Mind" sub-forum buried in the basement.

Without the banter in what used to be the "General" forum, I'd probably just wander off aimleesly into the internet and end up wasting away my life at some seedy porn site since I'm so easily corrupted. I guess it's a win-win for me either way.

My late wife, who passed away from malignant melanoma, was on a site specifically for melanoma patients. They had a page/subsection called 'the dark side', where folks could post just about anything. Sometimes it was shocking, but it was mostly folks facing the reality of what they were going through.

It covered all sorts of things going on in their lives.

Hey everyone...

Just wanted to thank you all for your continued input.

I want to also let you know that we are currently not going to aggressively move topics around, for now anyway. We've got too much other stuff to do. B)

What we'd like to do is keep things as they are for now, and compile some usage data over the next few days/weeks or months. Then we may (or may not) consider a forum restructuring of sorts, which would almost certainly consolidate things a little. By that I mean combine certain forums that don't get much traffic, rename certain other forums, and simplify things a bit.

Again, we aren't going to do any sort of restructuring beyond what's already been done yet. We may not even do it at all. But, time will tell.

Anyway, thanks again. I'm going to go ahead and close this topic, as I think most people that have a strong opinion on it have said what they wanted to say.
